    1982 Mercedes 300GD 4WD Camper van - $41000 (Portland, OR)

Looks very familiar. I believe it was listed somewhere on here a while back - probably when the current owner bought it. I'd ask for recent photos, I'm fairly certain some (most, all?) of the photos in the ad were from when it was originally listed.

    Car Camping Stove

The other solution with butane is to keep a canister somewhere in the passenger cabin until ready to use. Once operating, the stove self-warms the canister a bit, so you just need to get it lit.

    Car Camping Stove

I've had no problems with my Butane stove down to low 30's, but haven't tried beyond that. As for windy conditions, I picked up a folding aluminum windscreen at my local asian market for $7. Looks a lot like this one and came with a little plastic case.

Dinosaurs, Hiking, and Raving Neighbors in Anza Borrego

Should do. We're RSVP'd on the list and I've carefully arranged to ensure that we celebrate wife's birthday on the weekend before, so there'll be no conflicts.

    Vehicle-Attached Windbreak

Not sure about the vehicle-mounting aspect, but I know these are very common in the UK and other places where wind and weather is often more of a factor than in the places I camp. They're generally just known as "Windbreaks", I think...

Fire Pan for Restricted Areas. What do you use?

Right there with you. I occasionally monitor craigslist as I sometimes see smaller drums from front-loaders for sale...

Best coating for exposed plywood? Bed Liner? Full sun/heat exposure in a hot climate

I coated the inside of a battery/tools/etc. box with brush-on bed liner, and it worked fantastically well. Adhered very well and was very hard wearing. Have since broken that box down, planning to recycle the wood into other things, but it turns out that bed liner is never coming off unless I...

Chest Style or Front Open Fridge for Van?

I use a pair of sliding baskets for the bottom shelf of my front-opening shelf, which helps tremendously with the problem of getting to stuff in the "back". I actually find this much easier than digging to things on the bottom of a chest fridge.

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

Enterprising gentlemen on the AstroSafariVans.org site have now successfully merged transfer cases so that they can have true AWD with selectable low-range. Pretty awesome.

    underseat lockbox

With a little creativity, you can usually make the Bestop stuff work in other vehicles. I have one of the Bestop lock boxes for a JK Wrangler mounted in my Astro van. The only work to make it fit was to make a replacement for the main mounting bar that's shaped to fit the seat-mounting humps...

Fire Pan for Restricted Areas. What do you use?

One thing I forgot to mention regarding Washing-machine tubs and other such large fire containers: Yes, they are large, but that actually means you can transport a large bundle of fire wood inside them, which is a nice space-saving feature. (I still don't have room for one in my rig, though)

Fire Pan for Restricted Areas. What do you use?

You might search for "Radiator Drain Pan" or "Water Heater Drain Pan", I think there might be something there. The other possibility is one of those "discount" stores like TJMaxx/HomeGoods/Marshalls. I frequently see galvanized tubs, trashcans, etc. there for cheap...

Nice, Tom! Great to see the wheeling doesn't stop. We're going to need a thread on that van, too!

Fire Pan for Restricted Areas. What do you use?

I use a galvanized oil-change or livestock feed pan: I mounted mine on a tripod so I could use it as a grill and Dutch-Oven stand (grill raises and lowers on cables, oven is on a chain hook), but the basic pan is super cheap and could be used on a short stand or even just up on a couple of...

Chest Style or Front Open Fridge for Van?

After literally years of struggling to build an interior around a chest fridge, I finally went with a front-opening fridge on my most recent build iteration, and I love it: The whole "cold air spilling out" thing is sort of a myth - it's the temperature of the mass inside the fridge...

    Is my ScanGauge toast?

This matches my experience with them as well. Have only needed a couple of interactions with their customer service (intermittent backlight), but it was always very smooth and they've never charged me.

    Freezing water

This is a whole topic, both for "storage" and "use". For storage, the RV world has a whole process of pumping out the water tanks and putting a food-grade antifreeze into the system, etc.: http://www.fmca.com/polks-top-7/2807-top-7-steps-for-winterizing-your-rv-plumbing-system.html For usage...
