Yeah, not completely necessary but they sure are nice. My nest was missing them when I first got it and I used it that way for a few months. You really miss it when packing the last bit of tent material in before latching it down.
I'll start a build thread one of these days. It's your standard toyota truck: BJ spacers, couple extra leaves in back, 33s, 4.88s. I have carpet down in the bed and a very simple platform/table in one corner that's handy for cooking or playing cards or whatever when the weather is crappy. My...
Cool truck! I have it's brother:
The 3vze has such a bad rap, but have faith. If you can live with the lack of power it can be just as reliable as any other Toyota engine. I sold my last 4runner with over 260k on it and it was still running like a champ. I see it driving around town...
I've had BJ spacers on my last couple trucks/4runners and am really happy with them. I generally will only run an inch or so over stock height, which actually requires backing off the t-bars quite a bit. The ride ends up being much better than stock and you get just enough lift to run a bigger...
Here are a couple more pics of the wheels. Yes they're filthy. Yes the paint really should be stripped and freshened. But they are straight and I'll throw in 2 centercaps and a set of lugnuts if you need them.
Tires are SOLD! Still have a set of sr5 alloy 15" wheels if anyone is interested in them. $150? Painted (poorly) white.
Here they are still on the truck:
Do it! My last two trucks I've run BJ spacers at maybe an inch higher than stock (which comes from relaxing the torsion bars significantly) and really like the ride. If you run stock height you won't run into any problems that you wouldn't have to deal with anyway.
The bent tie rods and worn...
Just went to 33s on my pickup and the 31s are available. Roughly half tread. Also have a brand new Bridgestone desert dueler for spare if you need it. $300 OBO. $350 with spare. I would also consider throwing in the Toyota SR5 alloy wheels and lugs for the right price. Can post some pics...
I sold my last 4runner (1993) with over 260k on it and it was running better than ever. My current pickup only has 180k on and going strong also. Who knows if either had the headgaskets done. I've become a 3.slow believer. My original plan for my pickup was to start accumulating parts for a...
Ha! I don't even plan on putting a wrench on the old u bolts any more, just get ready to cut them out from the get go. Even on reasonably clean trucks they don't ever seem to come out without a fight. Good job.
Love your truck. I have it's twin over here in Salida, same truck/wildernest but white. Where did you source those shocks? I'm in the market for some and $200 for 4 sounds pretty tempting.
I apologize if its mentioned earlier in the thread, but what gearing are you running? My 3.slow with...
Great looking truck! Love the simple ones that actually get used.
About time for a 2nd gen pickup photo thread, there are a bunch popping up on here...
I love watching your progress fixing that thing up! Very refreshing in comparison to all the yuppie builds you see on here.
My '87 runner was totalled a few years ago and these threads really make me miss it. I love my 2nd gen but its just not the same.
We got a ton of snow here in the...
