Do we really need a spare?

Reminds me about how changing a tire never happens on the nice bluebird day at lunchtime. It's always in the middle of nowhere, dark, pouring rain, on the side of a dirt shoulder haha.

    Adventure

I've definitely cold weather camped and forgotten my sleeping bag, those were rough nights! One thing I had wished I'd packed, and have since started to pack, was tea. It's nice to have a warm drink at camp!

05 sequoia limited aka “turd crappley”

That looks fantastic- I like how you were able to retain your stock rear bumper. I've seen some similar set-ups, and it's easier on some vehicles than others. If you get a chance, could you post more pics of how the tire carrier is set-up, mounted, and holes were cut in the bumper cover?

Wild camping: In the wrong place at the wrong time

Nothing creepier than having someone roll into a dispersed (wild) campsite in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. I can't imagine having an entire squad of people pull an operation around my sleeping vehicle! Sounds like you handled it as well as you could, and in my humble...

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

I get it, I used to have a project off-roader and a daily and ended up consolidating into one vehicle to do both that was newer. I was tired of the unreliability and effort and wanted something that I could just use. Upside: reliable and still useable Downside: not old and unique. The "crusty...

Have A 2003 Kia Sorento 4x4 EX What To Do?

If it were me I'd focus on ensuring all the maintenance is good to go, then move on to restoring items that could due with being replaced (torn seats? old hoses? etc), after that I'd want to upgrade tires and then honestly if everything is working that'll get you most places and you can just add...

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

It sounds to me like you either need (2) vehicles: (1) newer reliable vehicle and (1) older weekend/project vehicle. or You need to dump "new car" money into your older vehicles and do a ground up restomod to get them up to par with your requirements.

Why don't we see more Ford Ranger builds

I'm in the PNW of USA and I've been seeing more and more of them. Maybe because their latest iteration (mid-size) is still somewhat new? I know for mid-sized pick-ups the Tacoma reigns king here, but I've been seeing more Rangers and Colorado builds driving around lately. Maybe we'll see more of...

Does a 230 mile/charge range make you more or less likely to buy a Lighning?

As an adventure vehicle that range wouldn't work for me. As many already know those values are in optimal conditions and the range can decrease significantly (e.g. headwind, altitude, road grade, etc.). As a daily driver it would be totally fine for my family's needs. For around town towing it...

"You Can't Get There From Here"; A Definition - Mitch's North Maine Woods Trip Report

Fantastic trip report, thanks for taking the time to share the story with us! I grew up in AK and have never been to the Northeast, but would love to visit one day.

    What's your dream sleep system?

One thing I've been keeping an eye out is a hybrid air/pad mattress and maybe even pillow. Padded mattresses are awesome, but take up a lot of room. Air mattress aren't as awesome, but pack up to the size of a pair of pants. What about a hybrid? Like a 1.5" pad with maybe 3" of air mattress...

    DIY Winch in a Box.

Don't forget about snatch blocks (and rings)! Of course, that requires a couple trees or something to winch off of. You may be able to find a front receiver hitch for your Frontier though, they do make them bolt on.

Giving Up on Sleeping in My Vehicle

For those who stumble upon this thread with Subaru Outbacks, I've always enjoyed this build by Chase Christopher on YouTube. His set-up is efficient, relatively light weight, and seems good for shorter, single person, trips. Might not be full-fledged enough for a full blown month long Overland...

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

One day I'm considering a full size truck and the F-series is likely at the top of my list for many of the reasons that you listed in your article. At the moment though, I feel somewhat stuck with small/mid-sized vehicles due to the roads/trails that are in my area (PNW) that aren't really...

    Tacoma hidden winch mounts

For maintenance you'd probably have to pop the entire bumper off so you can get access to the winch tray. That's what I'd have to do on my 4Runner with a hidden mount. There's some top access from the engine bay, but if you really wanted to pull apart the winch that's not gonna be good enough...

    Recovery Rope or Recovery Strap?

Chain or steel winch cable for trees or dragging makes a ton of sense. I carry a recovery strap because it takes up less room and that's a concern for me. If I was doing a lot of recoveries, either as a volunteer effort or if I had more time to get out and play, I'd definitely want a rope. I'd...

    DIY Bumper HELP

Could you sleeve the bolts inside the box-frame? That would help strengthen the frame and allow you to get good compressive force going there. Alternatively, or in conjunction, capping the ends of your box-frame would probably strengthen it up too.

Need recommendations for new tough rain shell

I gave up on breathable jackets and fell back on what fisherman use in my hometown- full blown rubber. For when you no ******** don't want to get soaked. Grundens Rain Jacket. Downside: no pockets, not breathable, heavy duty so not super flexible Upside: absolutely not permeable Works for me...
