72 Bug, Baja for the road

Don't know who built that one, but at first glance I assumed it to be an inexpensive roof box on a utility trailer. Which puts me in a mind to take some measurements of a couple of my many unused roof boxes before heading to Harbor Freight...

    Flippac build-out

Continued great work, man! It was awesome talking to you at DRV. Can't wait to see what you'll do next.

    Rivnut options?

One other tip, just discussing riv-nuts this weekend with user Arclight: Sometimes after the swaging the nut won't be perfectly straight (like it compressed more on one side than the other), this can yield a situation where things cross-thread a little bit. It never hurts to chase these nuts...

    Astro AWD "Stroverlander"

Thanks, man, that's good info. I think I'll go ahead and order those and then figure out my next steps when I have 'em in-hand. I'll either shim them a bit or make a tube-steel spacer and really bring them up. My tabs are just below the axle centerline, here's a blurry photo from when they...

    Post up your drawer/storage system

Very cool. I bet the amount of storage volume you lost with the caster and support bar above it was offset by the volume you gained by being able to make the drawers full width instead of having to leave room for slides down the sides. Depending on length, you might have actually gained volume.

    Small "Propane tank" wanted....!!

It's all about volume and economy of scale. The smaller tanks don't circulate as much. The 20# tanks are ubiquitous. Also, shop around. Ace Hardware has the 5# tanks (8" diameter) for $54.99

    Astro AWD "Stroverlander"

No, the way the boots are molded on my Bilsteins, I can't use the old "zip tie on the shock shaft" trick. Might be that I need to actually find a friend with a fork lift or a ramp and do some static checks...

    Help with Nav Tablet

I have the same tablet, I've recently set it up with a Ram X-Grip for small tablets. I need to get photos, I'm happy with the stability, once I figured out how to mount everything. The spring-lever mechanism for the X-Grip has a weird side effect where once the tablet is installed, the unit...

    Backwards Transmission Swap

Sadly, I came to say the same thing. Unless your preferred configuration was not actually available or is exceedingly rare (like a manual transmission in an Astro van), it's nearly ALWAYS cheaper and easier from a service/maintenance perspective to swap the truck instead.

    L300 Delica

Fantastic! Keep it coming. EDIT: The rest of us in the van section will try not to take it personally that you're posting with the Mitsu guys. ;-)

[YEAR 7!] Quit our jobs, sold our home, gone riding...

Gene, I must emphasize again that you really need to transform the blog into a book. You wouldn't be the first or last, but your writing style would work in that form. All of the stuff you've gone through, the highs and lows, especially Neda's family, health issues, etc. are compelling. If...

Interesting propane combination heater and stove

It says propane, but based on the configuration of the case (which looks like every canister-powered "catering" burner I've ever seen), I'm betting it uses the tall 220g canisters, which are butane. Snow Peak, etc. make the short/squat 220g containers that are a propane/butane mix, but i...

    Astro AWD "Stroverlander"

Do you feel those bump stops are tall enough? I've been sweating that over on ASV and had been thinking to build up higher perch to use the stock ones. Having done the shock tab relocation, I'm worried about bottoming the shocks on compression. Since I've theoretically raised the rear 4" and...

A tale of two vans' travels: Over 25 trips together

You guys are such an inspiration for the rest of us who live behind our keyboards. Less time building rigs and more time USING them. Right on, indeed.

    2013 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter

Awesome. This would be my choice if I was in the market (and tax bracket) for a 4x4 Sprinter.
