Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Ugh... got the call a few days ago from my fabric guy. Was awesome to get the call, and an update as it has been a month or so. The fabric he ordered for my camper pop up sides and the rear door awning, which is the same stuff / colour he is using on his boat top replacement as well... was...

    M101 CDN2 Wiring

Ha ha... many would disagree I am sure, but happy to help out where I can. I still miss my trailer, was a fun bit of ExPo ready kit! Glad it helped.

    2003 Northstar -- 2004 f-250

Nice setup... I really like that idea, with the guides and so on. This is a particularly nicely designed and deployed setup.

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Not much in the way of progress of late... too cold and wet to do much, and pitch black by the time I finish work. I did manage to get a hold of all of the upper running lights (amber and red) and on sale this time too that I will be installing soon. I also managed to score a set of new (he used...

    85 Ford Fiesta Camper Van

Carbs are one of those things that I try to avoid at all costs...heh. I am spoiled I guess, all these years with fuel injection on everything I have owned. Having said that, a properly maintained, properly sized and jetted carb can be a very reliable option. There are probably some decent...

    Heaters: Comparative data

It seems that their operation may be well suite to that scenario. As they sound like they run up, then run, then run down... a really well insulated non pop up may end up like an oven inside. heh But a less well insulated unit (like mine will potentially be) that could work out well. Other than...

    DIY pop up mechanism

I don't see why not? They are heavy and bulky to move around, and you would have to figure out a way to mount them. But with a little time and effort nothing is really impossible. If I were to do it again I would go the linear actuator route and get a good set of 4 with all of the controllers...

What type of plywood for trailer build?

This is the same ply I used for the tub of my camper build as well as a few other more structural parts like the bed top and bottom, the bench seats and the fridge slide. I like the look of dressed and finished plywood when it is nice stuff. Please note the drawer front still needed varnish in...

What type of plywood for trailer build?

Interesting thread. I used cabinet grade 1/2" birch ply (waterproof glue) for my build as I could not get access to true voidless Baltic Birch for anything less than a ridiculous amount of money. It astounds me how much wood and especially plywood costs these days... but the good stuff is worth...

    Heaters: Comparative data

It is going to be used for the pop up camper sides, and the awning. So yes, the pop up sides. This is the Marine Grade stuff they use for dodgers and Bimini covers. I am working with a marine canvas specialist on this, and he (and others) highly recommend this. Hoping that it in combo with a...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Deposit in, final designs and plans confirmed and templates made. Also having him make me a rear awning to go over the entrance/door and rear of the camper. Should be nice.... 5' out from the back and the full width of the camper (81"). I managed to get some work done today as well. Installed a...

    Heaters: Comparative data

I am looking at installing a Planar 2kw diesel heater. They are high altitude units too, which is nice in case I ever head up in the hills. I live on the west coast and rarely am much higher than 2000', so it is likely not a critical feature, but I see LOTS of you folks in here who live way up...

One More Piece At a Time

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Deposit going in for fabric and cushions this weekend. He is coming over to do final measurements and working out the details. Pretty excited about this development, but I sort of missed the season...heh. I am thinking about a Planar diesel heater from my friends over at Expedition Upfitter. So...
