Fibreglassing experts, I have a question for you about repairs to my truck siding

Thanks Ben, when I had the truck painted it was sprayed with a 2 part paint in a proper spray booth. With the huge number of scratches and marks on the paint after extensive use, I'm really not so concerned about the appearance now, and I'll be satisfied with the repair once its got a couple...

Fibreglassing experts, I have a question for you about repairs to my truck siding

I'm rather embarrassed about how long it has taken me to get round to this project. I was searching for the advice I was given when I originally asked the question and was shocked that more than 2 years had elapsed. In the meantime the West Systems had discoloured due to condensation but worked...

    BEST VEHICLE PAINT?

Two part polyurethane paints are pretty much top of the pile for being tough and looking great, but you'll need an air fed respirator if you're planning on spraying them. Jotun Hardtop XP is pretty good value and polishes up nicely. Applied over a good epoxy primer, its about the most durable...

Books on DIY expedition camper builds

When I converted my truck (used as a case study in Steve's book), I referred most to Travel Vans by John Speed, and Collyn Rivers self published book, Caravan & Motorhome Electrics. There was less information online when I first started and I daresay with lots of searching you could find most of...

    Camp stereo

Minirig is the best portable speaker I've ever owned. 80 hours battery life, sounds great (even better with the sub), and it'll really piss off your neighbours if you're that type of person.

    Custom GXV F550 Video Tour

I also recommend Caframo fans, I have a Bora in the bed area of my motorhome and it's given me a lot of comfortable nights sleep. I also have some Hella turbo fans but they are noisier and do not feel as well made.

Ski Bum Truck V2.0, F450 Rough Road RV

I had exactly the same problem with the roof on my truck when I bought it. I used a chisel to remove as much of the old sealant as I could, I then ran a messy line of Sikaflex 221 over every seam and rivet. When it was dry, I coated the whole roof in a nasty roof sealant paint called Acypol. Its...

Rough ride - Wheels and Tires - 19.5's to 20" LT's? or Suspension

How about the 11.00r16 Michelin XZL tires? They are not a common size, and may be correspondingly expensive, but in the UK they are load rated to 4806 lb per tire. They are larger than your current tires but they have a much big sidewall.

    External Door Locks

Where I live in London its also a good idea to eave the glove box open. I've had a window smashed twice by people who want to see if I've left anything valuable in the glove box. Needless to say this has never happened on my truck.

    External Door Locks

British Gas use them on the back doors. I guess they just want to advertise that huge fleet customer is using them.

Hard to tell from the photo but it looks like an armadillo lock: https://www.thevehiclegroup.com/vehicle-security/armadillo-lock/

    MG Metalworks Van Build

Great work! Member SG1 on here has travelled many miles in a European factory 4x4 transit based camper and I'm sure he would be willing to impart his experience. I remember him saying that the factory 4x4 system essentially comprises of the front-wheel-drive system from the lighter spec...

Mercedes Vario D814 vs D816 vs D818 engine spec differences

With Merc trucks it's normally just turbo and tune, but it's possible that the injectors are different. I don't have the time now, but some generous soul with access to EPC can check whether there are any part number differences between the models on likely components such as unit injectors...

    Dodge Ram 5500 motorhome

No problem, I was introduced to it by a couple I met in Guanajuato. It was fairly new and not very useful when I first started to use it but its much better now. Strangely the US is pretty under used for decent boondocking sites.

    Dodge Ram 5500 motorhome

I don't know if you plan to go back to the Kolob area but we enjoyed the drive up from Kanarraville to Kolob resevoir on the Kanarra Mountain Road. The reservoir had some nice places to camp and the road was in reasonable condition the whole way. There was some good hiking in the Lava Point area...

    Furnace gasket material

My Webasto furnace coked up a couple of times when I was in the Rockies and I had to disassemble it without the right gasket to put it together. I just used a high-temp copper RTV silicone gasket that came in a tube from Ace Hardware. It works fine and no evidence of it leaking.

    Back at 4x4, 313CDI 4x4 Sprinter

Great to see progress and loving the panda 4x4. All the UK ones have rusted to nothing now, it's nice to see one in such good condition. I've always fancied buying a rotten one and turning into off road toy.

Source and cost to convert dual-tires to singels on a MB lorry

The only singles that you are likely to find on the shelf at truck tyre places in Europe are 385/65 on 22.5 inch wheels, as these are commonly used on the steer axle of heavy trucks. I suspect that the same is true in the US, although I saw lots cement trucks with huge 22.5 tires (425 or 445...

Travelling to Europe in USA registered car

In the UK there is an exemption from VAT and import duty if the vehicle you are importing has been owned by you for more than six months, and you are moving your place of residence to the UK. You are also not able to sell the vehicle for at least 12 months after importing it. IMO it would have...
