Thanks Chris, it's good to know it works... not just in principle. My rig does have an abs sensor on each front wheel and one in the center of the rear Dana 70 axle. So I'll need to mix and match some parts to make the abs work right. It's good to know it has been done. The original pistons in...
I've not owned a V10 personally.
Based on the countless Diesel vs V10 debates, and other reading I've seen on V10s over the last 10 years, V10s are reliable, quiet, smooth, and get 10ish MPG for most driving.
Can't guarantee a specific V10 is reliable but everything I've seen indicates they...
I've got a '97 ambulance that a few years back I replaced the front brakes with 2001 parts...
I also replaced the Master and booster with 2001 parts.
I've been looking into 2008 and newer larger and thicker rotors and calipers. This is roughly what they'd look like. The first option would be...
I’d seriously consider Moog 880 or 880s variable rate coils for the front. 880s made a huge difference to how my 10k+ ambulance rides and handles. The 880s are extra load for heavier engines like my 7.3 psd. I suspect a V10 is similar in weight to the 7,3 but I could be wrong.
I’ve got 3500 lbs...
Based on online searches it appears the front dually spindles are the same 94-2010. Therefore, In theory, one could swap in 2008 larger and thicker rotors along with the matching 2008 calipers and pads.
Anyone ever upgraded ‘01 front dually brakes using “08 brake components?
I believe you should be able to modify those bases to fit an LED bulb. I have information in a thread on here about which LED I used. So much better than the halogen bulbs they replaced. 5 W bulbs threw more light, and more even light than the 35 W Halogen bulbs they replaced.
I’ll have to look into the front discs more. Although an extra half inch diameter does seem like that much, combined with the extra thickness, it should help reduce the likelihood of cooking the front rotors.
When I got the rig there was evidence that the callipers had got hot enough to turn...
In the meantime, the coupler for the 17” long intermediate e-brake cable broke when I pushed on the pedal to release it. This is twice in the last few years the cable has broken when the pedal was pushed… not loving that.
Glad it wasn’t in an emergency.
Based on what I found on Rock Auto they are larger than my 1997 (actually off a 2001) discs. I don’t know how they compare to brakes on a solid. They are 1/2” larger making them 1/4” closer to the rim.
I’d sure like to know if the hub bearings are the same diameter and if newer callipers newer...
Life has been stupid busy and crazy, the ambo has been reliable as they should be.
Next up will be brakes. I'd like to upgrade to newer larger front discs as the front brakes aren't as heavy duty as I'd like. Over time the rear brake adjusters haven't been keeping up, and it wasn't till I was...
Great to see your making progress again. Life has been crazy busy the last few months so I've barely had time to do anything that wasn't necessary to keep mine rolling down the road.
While I'm here I should update my thread. Next up will be brakes. Do 16" dually wheels fit over the newer brakes?
Mine is a’ ‘97 so it has an E4OD in it. It has been replaced at least once. I don’t know if the Ambulance service would do anything special to the transmission when it was replaced, but I feel it’s safe to say it’s at least as strong… if not stronger than an OEM E4OD. It needs to be since it’s a...
Agh... that reminds me, I've got a set of glow plugs sitting in a drawer waiting. While I'm at it, HPOP, fuel pump, rebuilt fuel bowl, and low mileage injectors. They've been waiting a few years, and they'll likely be a few more. If I could flip up the cab they'd be already done. What should be...
The lengths you’ll go to to get away from an E350 engine bay. So long as the cab doesn’t fall on you it looks far less painful… possibly even enjoyable to work on.
No kidding… it can go away anytime.

11ish seems about right. I get 11ish+ with a lot of short trips around town, about 16+ sailing on the highway at 70+, and best highway run was about 20 (snowstorm in the mountains doing 50 mph tops with very slow starts/stops due to ice & snow.
Overall I'm likely a bit smaller at 88" wide, 8'6"...
Last week. The 40 was our main transportation for about four days. The roads were terrible. Doing a pirouette in an ambulance on ice while sliding backwards down an ice covered hill isn’t a lot of fun.
At least this year it was on a 20’ wide road… unlike last year when it was an 8’ wide driveway...
That’s a great option for someone. I’ve got a functionally similar bench seat in my Crestline ambulance. I can easily seat 7 and still carry everyone’s gear. The setup works great.
For extra comfort I have a queen size memory foam topper that I use for extended trips.
