Does anyone run a Detroit locker in GM 10 bolt?

Not a Detroit Locker, but I swapped out my G80 (still working to the surprise of the Eaton folks) for an ARB AirLocker in my GM 10bolt. I got the first of the redesign from Australia that eliminated 50% of the moving parts and doubled the strength.

What are your Overland equipment must haves?

InReach. It isn't needed until it's NEEDED. Text requires much lower bandwidth and signal strength than voice so it's much more effective than a SatPhone. Recently needed in a dire situation - I was the only one with an InReach, one guy had a SatPhone. I was able to get EMS on site while he was...

Any shop making a Custom Snorkel?

I used the Safari snorkel for a 70 Series Land Cruiser for my Avalanche as the fender shape was the closest I could find. I must have looked at 1000+ images on line trying to find what looked like the best fit. Safari is of no help whatsoever if the snorkel is going on a vehicle other than what...

Map & hardware for off road, off grid, vehicle use.

I use a combination: Lowrance, paper topo maps, and Atlas & Gazetteer. I also have my InReach which is paired to my phone so I can use it as well. Paper maps are always a good idea since they never break.

    Engineer Pass: Colorado

The intent was a big loop from Carbondale running East then South then West then North and East back to Carbondale. The plan was: Start in Carbondale, then head East towards Leadville, then South to St. Elmo, Tin Cup, Pitkin, then towards Ouray area. The route was altering a bit due to weather...

    ARB Air locker unusual problem

Call ARB USA - they are headquartered in Washington and that's where their tech support is. Sounds to me like the gears aren't set properly - not the locker.

    Engineer Pass: Colorado

Beautiful. We were doing a weeklong trip overlanding the high passes in the Rockies and it included Engineer Pass, but things went sideways before we got that far and never made it to that point. It's beautiful - bummed I didn't get to see that part.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Rayra - did you ever get your Transmission gauge sorted out? I ordered a new cluster plate that had the trans temp gauge face, but when I pulled my cluster apart - there was no stepper motor in that spot. I did a little checking and found that the 2002 is the only one that you have to replace...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Yeah - I'm gathering parts right now. Got the axles and the SuperSteer idler brace with the Cognito weld in gusset. Just ordered: Moog PS HD idler and pitman arms, upper intermediate shaft and steering bearing, and EBC Yellow Stuff pads. Looking to order Sway Away torsion bars in the #8k-#10k...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

On my snorkel - I couldn't get it to seal to the factory box (different shape opening). One guy with a Tahoe used his factory box, but mine would not seal. I had my engine running and was spraying carb cleaner next to the seal and the RPMs would increase - that means it's sucking in air. No...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Pretty much - and that has been stiffened with the sliders welded into it. No on the trip report - PM me and I'll explain.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Thanks. With 4.88s and 35" tires - I'm turning 2000 RPM at 60 MPH, 2200 RPM at 65MPH, 2350 RPM at 70MPH. I usually set my cruise at 65MPH. My Av is an NFE meaning it came stock with 4.10 gears - with the 31" Goodyear ATs from the factory - at 70MPH I'm actually only taching 120RPM more than...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Finally tackling the last of the major upgrade areas - the front end. RCV axles (these things are MASSIVE) just arrived along with a SuperSteer idler arm support and the Cognito weld in gusset. EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads also going in as I've decided against the hydroboost conversion. Still on...

    Let's see your GMT800 headlights

My headlights are upgraded Sylvania bulbs but they still pretty much suck. My fogs are now LED pods so at night I turn those on to supplement my headlights. If I'm in dirt then the ARB Intensity lights mounted on my bumper get turned on. I would love to put a better headlight in but everything...

BFG T/A KO2 vs Cooper STT PRO?

I switched to the General Tire Grabber x3 and am extremely happy. They are much more aggressive than a regular AT and they have absolutely gripped in every terrain we have put them, plus they are not loud on the road. Thickest sidewall on the market. I think they also recently introduced the AT3...

    Tire Recommendations for GMT800 Tahoe?

I'm a big fan of the General Tire Grabber X3. They've also just released a new AT tire as well.

    GMT800 2500 axle swap in 1500?

Are you rock crawling? The 14 bolt is a great idea, but the 10 bolt gets a very bad rap - and very undeservedly. I've seen MANY MANY very high horsepower high torqued race cars with essentially stock 10 bolts do just fine. Being conscious of weight, I swapped in G2 axles (60% stronger than...
