LR3 roof rack vs rear tire carrier question

I don't think it's about clearance, but about access to the spare if the truck is in a 'bad' spot.

    New Defender Concept

While I understand what he is trying to say, I'm not getting Antichrist 'ol-school version of versital. Even with the multitude of body types available, you still had to pick one and deal with that particular versions positives and negatives. I'm not seeing how that is very different than what...

    LR3/4 Forum Activity

Unless the Jeep is a Rubicon or has been upgraded with lockers, I don't see it as an even comparo. ;) What pushed me to the LR3 over a Jeep was the extra comfort and utility of the LR3. The kids LOVE the rear A/C (and heated rear seats), and the 3rd row has really come in handy for scout trips...

The Anatomy of an overland Land Rover

My dad used to use the phrase "To keep honest people honest" usually followed with "Not much will stop a truely dishonest person".

    In-dash nav on a budget?

I've used the Kenwood radios with the Garmin nav built in. In function, it's essentially a Garmin standalone unit on the radio touchscreen - at least on the DNX8120 (2008ish model) that we put in the wifes car. You essentially used a button to switch the screen between the radio and the Garmin...

    LR3 Sears Diehard Platinum question

That reminds me... Do the Platinums have the port for the vent hose? There have been reports of "normal" batteries corroding the fuse panel and the transmission ECU when the battery can't be properly vented. As an AGM battery they might be sealed..? I've been reading on the Odyssey and the...

    LR3 Sears Diehard Platinum question

The website shows an H7/94R size that should work with the factory cable and hold-down. It's a Gold, not a Platinum. I have used an Autozone battery in that size without issues before. Why deal with the fitment issues when alternatives are available?

LR3 - why the bad rep?

I think half of the bad reputation was inherited from the Discos and the P38. I also think that the recent uprise in LR3 "noise" is because they are dropping out of the hands of the original "soccer mom" and "mall cruiser" owners and into the second hand market where we can pick them up fairly...

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

Deeply worn, rutted or muddy "twin tracks" are a pretty common occurance where the newer independant suspension really outshines the solid axles for me. Only bigger tires will help clearance on a solid axle truck in such a situation. The LR3 just raises over the high center that would have...

    Will LR4 prices hold?

All of the exterior changes can be bolted on - the color coded fender flares and the rear license panel are the bulk of the visuals and can be done for far less than the cost difference of an equal mile LR3 to LR4. I'll bet that you can do EVERYTHING, even the bumpers and lights, for less than...

    Will LR4 prices hold?

So what we really want is the LR3 with the LR4 5.0 V8? :victory: For me, if I really plan to keep it a looonnnng time, then the initial mileage is less of a concern then the initial condition - as the mileage will be inconsequential after a short time. I also think that the LR3 interior will...

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

LOL, today you can almost do the same run by jumping rooftop-to-rooftop.

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

Ah, I guess I assumed it was the same as a D3 because the gap below the headlights seems a bit wide and the grill seems to dip low behind it. Could be the angle of the shots though.

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

As a fresh LR3 owner who chose the Rover as the best choice to tote Boy Scouts around and go camping and adventuring with my boys, I approve of this project. I am looking forward to seeing this project progress. Off to a good start it seems. One question..Why the ARB bumper? (sponsership?)...

    New Defender Concept

Regardless of what they call it, I think a less expensive, smaller Land Rover based on the (now amortized) LR3/LR4 engineering could sell well. Something to aim at the SWB Wrangler, but nicer to drive and live with even if $5000 more or so. I admit I'm new, but I'm not really understanding the...

    Opinions on the LR3

Not to needlessly bump an ancient thread, but I am curious to see if everyones opinions on the LR3 (and LR4) are still the same. Many of the computer systems are much better known. Devices, like the Faultmate, are now available at much lower price points than LRs official tools. There are...

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

Here is mine the day after I bought it. Hopefully I'll be able to post follow up pics as mods are made to make it a more capable adventuremobile for me and the kids.

    LR3 prices continue to fall

I just bought my first Land Rover, a 2006 LR3 HSE V8. It seems to have pretty much everything, including the rear locker, rear heated seats (Cold weather package?), nav, "steering" HIDs, and the mini-fridge. 68,000 miles. I feel I got a decent deal @$21,000. I seems very clean and well taken...

    Is a Rover for me?

Ah, what you can't see in the picture is the other side of the *ridge* it came off of. My buddy gave me an impromptu challange to "Climb that hill", which the Monty did without issue. My failing was that I didn't scout the top, I just assumed it was a plateau. Up and over I went. I actually feel...
