    Computer and other electronic issues

Some newer vehicles are built with off road travel in mind, so the TCS/ABS/EBD/whatever is built for the driver to adjust it, or turn it off completely if necessary. Other vehicles are not. Don't buy those. Modules can be overridden... Guys with newer Rovers have diagnostic tools they use to...

two torn Discoverer AT3 sidewalls in a year

One on the left was probably just enough to go through. Ran the whole trail, stopped for a break, drove 15 minutes, stopped at the store for food, and didn't lose the tire until probably 1.5 hours after running the trail. It probably got hot on the highway and just let go. The one on the right I...

The tail of two Discos - which one to get as my first off-roader/overlanding vehicle?

That is a great deal on the 95. Its a rare I'd say.... 95, 5 spd, AND its a SE7. Usually the 5 speeds you see are cloth seats. Knowing how well my 95 is/has been treating me, I'd pick it up without hesitation. Make sure the cooling system is in fantastic order before you do anything else, then...

two torn Discoverer AT3 sidewalls in a year

I never said the sidewall was weak, I was looking to see if anyone else had issues. I'm happy now with the road hazard on the tires, I'm most disappointed with my communication with Cooper... But I guess that what I get when going with a tire with much less of an enthusiast following. I'm very...

two torn Discoverer AT3 sidewalls in a year

Here's a pic of both tires Picked up a new AT3 today, as well as road hazard for all 4 tires. The chain store I bought them new at told me $100/tire, and I declined. This store said $25/tire. Still no response from Cooper, but I think I'm ok with the outcome, but this will probably be my...

two torn Discoverer AT3 sidewalls in a year

I sent them an email last night. If anything, a coupon for some money off of a new tire would be appreciated. I've taken the truck "offroad" something like four times in the year I've had the tires. Besides the beach, it really doesn't see as much off pavement time. It's my DD.

two torn Discoverer AT3 sidewalls in a year

Last year, with ~3000 miles on my load range E discoverer AT3s I tore a sidewall in some muddy/rocky ruts. I chalked it up to running my air pressure too low and I pinched it between the wheel and a rock. Two days ago, I slashed one on a trail on nothing that I would label hardcore. I'm running...

    Added guages

Digital voltmeter where the factory clock was, as well as water temp, oil pressure, and trans temp gauges. I don't have a decent picture of everything it seems... Gauges are in an el cheapo pod, but it works. The most important thing was that the matched the rest of the interior lights...

Land Rover comes through for my RRC LWB

Hmph. My Disco has the fuel tank recall and it apparently was never done according to the NHSTA site. I haven't worried about it.

    Some montero sport questions

My dad had a 98.5 LS with a 5 spd, rear locker, swing out tire carrier, 32" tires and sunroof. Wish I was old enough to take it when he traded it in for a new one.

Calling LR3 and LR4 lowers, loyalists, cool aid drinkers and skeptics...

I'd love to go grab a Power Wagon and call it a day... Or any full-size for that matter. But on the east coast of the states, size is a big player. I'd be smashing every body panel of a truck that size on every trail.

    Land Rover discovery

Watts link is used instead of a panhard rod CDL = center diff lock You're looking at the wrong D1s then. SE and LSE models are pretty loaded. And the 4.6s go through head gaskets faster than other Rover V8s, and tend to crack the heads as well.

    Land Rover discovery

You're a mechanic and you don't understand thing like open vs closed knuckle or semi vs full float? If you are a more "old school" mechanic per say (it doesn't seem you are? Idk, don't want to assume anything), the D1 is WAY easy. Less computers controlling everything, more mechanical stuff. My...
