    Build Primer?

Foam and fiberglass is what I'm doing. My last 'Topper' was done this way and is amazingly structural. Intention is a tubular frame (of sorts) to support the overhead and do a pop-top to relieve the top-heavy issue (and allow it on a 1/2 ton frame). I won't make a flatbed, not seeing the need...

    Build Primer?

I found (actually on this forum!) another that pull his bed off his truck. His weight came out just over 400#'s without the tailgate. I'm estimating 50#'s for the tailgate. I know this isn't anywhere near exact, but should ballpark me close. I went 450#'s total and since I'm a 6.5 bed, I divided...

    Build Primer?

Once through the inspection (probably brakes, I'm due) I figure a serious look at the axle and suspension. Need to determine what can be done/added to existing or if I require changing out. Since I'm not looking for a major body lift, I'm hoping to add to existing.

    Build Primer?

By that, it looks like the 8.8 / 31. My truck was in the air and in process of welding. Couldn't get close enough to check any code stamps. Both sides over the axle and mid-point were very weak.. They figure by mid day tomorrow they have it done. Out of the weld shop and over to my mechanic for...

    Build Primer?

Thank you! I'm headed to the weld shop shortly and will check. Very anxious to see how they're coming along with the frame. Also want to get a price for the camper frame.

    Build Primer?

DzlToy... I think you mis-understand what I'm asking here.. I'm planning a step by step build to upgrade my truck to do what I want it to do. I'm almost done the engine and frame work. I felt suspension was next in line. Seems so far to be correct. I showed my trailer build peek to give an idea...

    Build Primer?

That's the issue with most commercial built campers... weight! Biggest reason I'm building mine and not going with a in-the-bed style. This cap is half the weight on my Leer fiberglass cap, and bigger.

    Build Primer?

Well, that helps me! I found another site saying if I have 10 bolts on the rear diff, it's a 8.8, 12 bolts it's a 9.75. That sound right to you? I'm going to the weld shop Monday morning to see how they're coming along (and get a good look while its in the air). The site seems to believe the...

    Build Primer?

Very good video! Thank you! Looks like I am proceeding correctly, whew... I get my truck back from the weld shop mid next week (frame repair/enforcing) and now can start researching suspension needs. I'm mainly a '2 tracker' and crawl over protruding rocks in the trail/road. Thinking the 1"...

    Build Primer?

I'm here to learn from you all on even where to start... I have a 2004 Ford F150 4x4 that is stock as can be and has taken on the good old Nor'east rust. As the first step I had my mechanic (that has worked on it for years) give me a once over on the mechanicals, basically "Worth Savin'?"...

Affordable, low power draw 60qt fridge.

I hear you on costs.. I saw an awesome video of a guy that dedicated a chest unit for fridge and another for freezer and mounted under a flip top counter for easy excess. How cool! Then I saw what he paid... The old joke of I wish I had enough money to buy an elephant came to mind. Don't want an...

    FOUND Vans For Sale!

I just got back from viewing this one. Actually some pretty good bones on this one! Surprised the heck out of me. Interior still needs modification/repair/cleaning, yet for the dollar not half bad. Me, I'd gut it and redo to fit my needs and go new. Shell, frame and mechanicals look much younger...

    Truck Caps

You could always build one with 1 1/2" foam board like I did. Design (found I needed the tailgate for the potty). To the built unit. . Now that I now how well this foam construction works, I wish I had gone longer over the cab and made it a Lift-Top. My build thread is here...

    FOUND Vans For Sale!

I visited Don today, he's one of the good ones! It rare now a days to find good folk, he's one! The Van is in great condition, even as you folks say a Nor'East unit. I couldn't find a spot of surface rust and the frame looked at most half the years of being here. Since I live in the Nor'East...

    4wd, Awd or 2wd w/locker???

Here in the Nor'East its rain, mud, snow or ice.. LOL With the occasional dry sunny day. I do jest a bit with this.. I chuckled a bit when you wrote "You can also build or buy a camper and mount it on a truck it you want good offroad 4wd capability". Some a bit bigger than this I assume.. ...

    4wd, Awd or 2wd w/locker???

The make or brake for me is the muddy 2-track roads. I can re-call a few times in the old P/U being stuck in the mud.. I'm leaning towards Awd and adding a rear locker. The advice passed on the transfer case is also intriguing. If I find a 2wd that's just too hard to pass up, I'll probably...

    FOUND Vans For Sale!

Found this one I'll add here. 2011 Chevy Express 1500 AWD 12,990 ask from dealership. I'd chase it if it was a 2500 https://www.jeffschevy.com/VehicleDetails/used-2011-Chevrolet-Express_Passenger-1500_Regular_Wheelbase_All_Wheel_Drive_1LT-Oxford-PA/3555482083

    4wd, Awd or 2wd w/locker???

Well... That really depends of how intense the build is.. I would prefer a base platform (probably awd) to work from.
