    Totaled gen 3 montero. :(

You pay for representation when you carry insurance...they work for you. Let them deal with the other party, and remember that this is an adversarial relationship. Your line should be, "talk to my insurance." Glad you weren't hurt. The mighty Mitsu took good care of you! Best wishes...let us...

    Safety Items for Solo Travel?

A station may indeed be licensed, but in this discussion the definition of licensed station is simply a station being operated by a licensed operator. Conversely, an unlicensed operator MAY be permitted to broadcast on a licensed station, but only if that station is under the control of a...

    Wheels for 2004 Montero Limited

Is there a particular reason that you want wheels that are heavier and less robust than stock? BTW, I totally understand the look you're talking about and considered it myself when I first got my '01, but function won over fashion.

    Active Trac Speed Limitation

I always keep my Gen III at 87 mph or less. Cuz, you know, at 88 mph the flux capacitor starts sparking.

what needed, light build 4 moab in GenIII

After my first Moab trip in a stock Gen 3 my first task was a severe bob to both front & rear bumpers and removing all the plastic crap hanging down. Of course, we still had a ball with the OEM configuration, having only changed the tire size to 265/75 16. Lots of fun on White Rim, Elephant...

    Gen 3, odd noise @ 60kmph

For all my Mitsu parts I use Google and just pick the dealer that offers what I want. Not all the sites have all the parts. In most cases I only use OEM parts on the Montero.

    Buying a Montero (3rd Gen)

This. You have to be ready to simply act without delay.

    Gen 3, odd noise @ 60kmph

A thought: bearings that are failing will eventually howl like the devil. The letting off the gas comment might imply that it's driveline related...I'd check your u-joints and wheel bearings. The easiest way to do this is to drive for 20 minutes or so, pull over and touch them; a failing bearing...

Tell me about your rattles...Gen 3

I've beat the hell out of mine and it does not have a single squeak nor rattle. "Lid on a pot" doesn't sound suspension related. Things that come to mind that might be loose: the front skid plate, a heat shield some place, an exhaust bracket, wheel well liner, the battery hold down, radiator...

    Gen 3, odd noise @ 60kmph

    1. Howling? First thought is tires...what type and condition are they in? 2. How do you know that it's a driveline vibe as opposed to something in the suspension or wheels? Some have reported curing a vibe by removing that block, though it's not on the rear diff. 3. Does the ABS actually...

    Homemade Roofracks.

I also use stainless fasteners. Rather than silicone, I use a high-adhesion polyurethane, the same stuff I used to use on my boat. It will NEVER leak.

    Benny's Gen 3 Montero

Not to poo poo someone's great idea, but what would prevent you from being blinded by the reflection of all that light from your hood?

2001 Montero Sport underbody skid plate... wear to source?

Yes, the angle was welded with the "spine" up. But don't overthink this...it's just what one guy did with a seat of the pants approach. The OEM mounting tabs on the crossmember are ready to go. Being a seat of the pants builder myself, I did fab up some additional tabs that were of heavier...

Hi-Lift + Lift Mate to fix a flat tire?

I agree with Verdesardog that lifting from the receiver is not a stable way to do it, but this answers your question for a means for doing such a lift. There are times in life, of course, when such a lift would be desirable. The other way to do it, depending upon how far back under the bumper...

Winch, now what? Best/most important winch accessories

There's no doubt that those are quality shackles. Bear in mind, however, that their working load limit is only 10,000 lbs. The Masterpull folks use the mean breaking strength to identify them (62,000 lbs), but that is six times the WLL, and quite a confusing, even misleading, way of advertising...

    Why do I want APRS???

APRS is one of the things that attracted me to getting licensed. I use it for a few different reasons... 1. My wife and I do our overland trips alone; we have no one to help in case of breakdown or emergency. Even when well outside of cell voice or data coverage, it's almost always possible to...

    Transmission bell-housing interchangability question

The Google says that the Aisin Warner AW4/30-40LE/A340 series and the AW372L/03-72L/A44DL series transmissions have completely different bell and t-case adapter bolt patterns, so the housings are NOT interchangable.
