I bought the Kodiak screen house, very similar to springbars
I don't think the clam style shelters are a good choice because the screens do not open and there is only one door. So if you wish to use it as a canopy there will be very little, if any, breeze that comes thru. With that being said...
Looks pretty cool and looks like the chassis is in great shape. I think an old van like this CAN be worth $12-16K if it's in good condition, but I can't tell how much it would cost to get it there.....$5K maybe if your handy, $10-15K maybe if your not handy. Value could be around $5K.
I see...
Yeah, it will likely take 30,000BTU to cool during a hot texas summer day, but you only need ac for sleeping at night IMO. Was it still to hot to sleep with the 8000btu unit?
Any offroad place or shop that specializes in modified suspensions can handle the job. Get some Max Key's for the front...
Sweet, a explorer chevy conversion van, now I'm not the only here with one.
I've seen them put generators in the spare tire location and then relocate the spare......not really a fan of that approach because the exhaust fumes have the potential to rise up into the cabin. I would put a...
Yes, better 360 degree visibility thru the extra side windows and I believe there is only one door on the Spring bar 10x10 vs two on the Kodiak. Was cheaper as well. Even with screens down still managed to catch some condensation on the ceiling during a test run in backyard in May. But no...
I bought the Kodiak tent because of the side windows thinking it would make it cooler, but don't think it really did. Thought it would allow more breeze inside, but didn't really help. The screens still block most of the wind. The Kodiak was still worth buying for the side windows though...
For your use you may consider a big umbrella that spans the width of the doors while open at 90degree angle. Then its just a matter of opening it up and setting it on top of the doors.
At first read my thought was lower and upper ball joints could be bad enough that the front tire is riding on the corners and would make a vibration if they were all terrain or more aggressive tread. It would be obvious though if any mechanic looked at it and the tread would be wearing severely...
Never ceases to amaze me. Capitalism created the 4x4 van market in the US so to hear someone bash it on a 4x4 van ad thread is utterly ridiculous. And what do you people care if someone makes a buck? Such elitism just assumes the old lady was too incompetent to sell a van at fair market value...
What's with the XXXXXs on here trashing capitalism? And why you here? I'm sure Venezuela or Cuba would be a better fit. Think all you XXXXXX need to put your money where you mouth is and give away all your expedition vehicles and equipment and then go do mission work in Venezuala and come back...
I agree. If you don't like what you have start over with something else. Don't understand why people try to go the frankenstien route. Any savings will be lost in the form of time and resale.
Shouldn't be a problem. You can sleep the kids the width of the van while their short.
Seems like a terrible waist of money tho. Why not just get them a tent and you and wife sleep in the van? They will want their own space anyways when they get older. Don't get me wrong. I really like the pop...
Pop up is good idea. Roof top tent is a terrible idea IMO. Are you really going to carry a child up and down a ladder? Agree you need to lower expectations and maybe go it alone until they get older.
My youngest is a boy age 3 and it's tough with him. Has hard time going to sleep. The girls...
