Just updating this thread to let you guys know that ordering the antenna switch from overseas does not work. It does plug right in, but doesn't do anything. Turns out there is an extra relay that plugs in somewhere behind the radio that is also needed but I'm not going to mess with it further...
Regarding the Big3 wire upgrade, were there any hangups to watch out for on this job because I'm going to do it in the near future. It's been awhile since I looked at the cables but doesn't the battery ground go into like a wire loom with other wires and the battery positive has that big factory...
1. The transfer case noise could be from not being used often. Gen3s seem to have more of a finicky transfer case that doesn't like sitting without being exercised every now and then. Shift through your transfer case gears every time you use the car after it has warmed up for the next week or...
Mitsu SPIII from the dealer is $6.00/qt here in Phoenix so even though I think you're right that the AISIN and ENOS stuff is the probably the same and *maybe* the Kia/Hyundai stuff is too, I'm not gonna chance it to save $10. But if you can't find the Mitsu stuff then ya, ENOS would be my second...
Now that your pump was replaced, can you still hear it turn on from inside the cab when you apply brakes? I always just assumed this was normal since it has been a feature of every Gen3 I've driven but they've all had old pumps so I'm interested to know if your replacement does it as well. Thx
I'm not sure why the recall ended there because I've heard of plenty of 2003-2006 G3s needing an EBB accumulator or pump. In fact, I never even knew about the recall til you mentioned it and just figured every G3 needed a new accumulator and pump, typically around 150-200k. My 2003's accumulator...
I just went through this with one of my Gen3s. The causes could be:
1. Exhaust Manifold leaks(s) - Very Likely, all Gen3s seem to experience cracked exhaust manifolds (one of those design flaws I was eluding to earlier ;-) ) though usually not until at least 150k I've found. Pray it's the...
Welcome to the group. Trans flush : normal mainteneance. Motor sound when using the brakes: normal, thats just the pump working. New CV (rebuild the oem ones, dont buy aftermarket): not a big deal, normal for IFS vehicles. Check engine light and traction control lights on: could be a big deal or...
The Russian bushings thing kind of hit a dead end I believe. https://www.adventuredrivendesign.com/forums/index.php?topic=242.0&fbclid=IwAR22cayPqtxwmX0QPUy2FmG_AEfnSviMre0YXLSEMhZok4OSuZFSoCM6wnM
As for the Kia plenum working in the 3.8L, I found this on FB: Doesn't look good...
Welcome to the family! Good plan to start with all the maintenance stuff before building it up for 4x4ing. Be sure to use the OEM stuff for the timing belt job.
I've 99% confirmed the extra plug is for the Antenna Switch which can raise and lower the antenna. I'm going to order one from overseas and test it out.
As for wheeling, nothing since that last Sedona trip but stay tuned - big news coming.
1/4/19 - Last week I took the car into the muffler shop and showed them the smoke test leak photos around the new muffler. They said that it is rare but does happen every now and then since it manufactured with just pressed seams and not fully welded seams like the Magnaflow or Flomaster (I...
1/15/19: Knocked out a simple job today that has needed addressing since Ernest bought Lawrence from Marutuk. Marutuk had cut up the single din storage cubicle for his ham radio unit and since he sold it, it has been an empty cavern that if you make the mistake of putting anything into would...
Hey, alright! Glad to hear the manifolds worked out but bummer to hear about that cylinder head stud! If that had happened to me during my nightmare installation battle I might have totally lost it and lit the truck on fire right there and then. Glad to here you found a work around though.
12/30/18: Test Day #6
Time to wheel on some red rock...so my buddy and I drove up to Sedona and hit Broken Arrow trail. I've done this trail 3 times before in Gen2s: once in my old 1997 SR, the General Li, and twice in my 1998 LS, Black Betty. Seeing how the Gen3 do this trail was really...
12/18/18: Instrument Cluster issues contd.
Lawrence has had a finicky fuel gauge ever since I acquired the vehicle and with the recent issue of the odo/speedo/tach not displaying I decided to try having the R10 resistor fix done to see if that solves everything. I've never soldered before so I...
Plural? You got front and rear ARBs?! That’s a spendy mod!
I’m casualy working on the logistics of getting a factory rear locker for the Gen3. Junkyard parts would need to be imported but that’s easy. The main thing I have to confirm is exactly which parts are needed because various sources say...
