I agree, the lack of an interior door handle on the rear door is a serious design flaw. I wonder if anyone has managed to modify the rear panel and install one? If not, I may give it a whirl one day.
I just love the shot of your Gen 2.5 Monty all squeaky clean next to the completely destroyed ZJ.
Regarding the Gen3's CV - did he bring spares with him this time?
Also - Your new rear bumper looks awesome, great job on the quarters!
Oh man, can't wait to see pics and vids of this! Welcome back Toasty, thanks for sharing this stuff.
SO when you say "Suzi = driver torn rotator cuff" - do you mean the human who was driving the rig, tore his shoulder's rotator cuff??!! Cuz that would suck way out there.
That's good info to know. The Accumulator in my new to me Gen3 was recently replaced but I think the motor is original. So it's good to know that I should have some warning signs and even if not, I'll have a few assisted brakes in the tank left.
That's good to hear - I'm looking forward to doing the doors. Looking forward to seeing what you do for the roof rack - the Gen3 is a lot harder and more annoying outfit with a good roof rack than previous Gens because of the lack of rain gutters.
7/25/18: Another update - last week I got around to getting the most annoying thing on this vehicle fixed: The Muffler. Years ago, Imnosaint wanted a smaller muffler to help out with ground clearance since the factory one is pretty low. He went with a cherry bomb / glasspack type of muffler...
7/25/18: It has been insanely hot in Phoenix (as expected) the last month so I've only been working on Lawrence an hour or so here and there in the evenings. Here are some updates though:
1. The 2nd row driver side seat belt was all torn up but the vehicle came with junkyard replacement belts...
I also would not recommend running 12.5" tires on anything less than an 8" rim. And if you're going to get wheel spacers then make sure they don't take your wheel out of centric. So if the Gen 2's front two wheels are hub-centric (I think they are), then you'll want to get hub-centric wheel...
Hey there, sorry for the long delay in getting back to you!
1. No chance you bought the General Li, haha. It is still in town and now running 37s and 5.29 gears. :-)
2. You can get a FSM here: http://mitsubishilinks.com/ I also highly recommend downloading ASA (further down the list) so you...
6/3/18: I used the 3M headlight restoration kit and polished up the headlights. Here's some before and after comparison pics:

6/7/18: The front skid plate was looking mighty tired so I refreshed it with some bedliner paint left over from the wheel refinishing:

6/2/18: A fun and satisfying day of knocking out little things:
1. I installed these Toyota Lug Nut Locks - perfect fit. Gotta protect those expensive KO2s and my hard work on the 4Runner rims.

2. Imnosaint had installed a Panavise tablet mount which is awesome and strong but since I...
5/31/18: This whole process is like dejavu. I bought Betty from Ernest as well. As a result they're remarkably similar: dirty interiors, damage to the rocker area from rocks (though not nearly as bad on Lawrence), fenders rolled/bashed to try to fit 35s (futilely), and lastly - they both had...
5/26/18: I went to the junkyard and got some miscellaneous little things.
This hinge cover was loose and kept falling out when the center console was opened, so I replaced that.

This visor was missing a retaining clip so I replaced that:

I got a bunch more trim pieces and...
Looks great!
One thing I can't figure out though - what's the point of the Quick Fist for the hi lift mount? It looks like the bolts and nuts going through the Surco Gutter Mount hold up the hi lift so what does the rubber Quick Fist do? Is it for limiting vibrations? Thx
Ya, you're lucky though and get to keep 2 Monteros but I haven't been successful yet in convincing my wife to daily drive a Gen3 yet. I'll keep trying though!
Some of you might have noticed that the rock sliders changed from the first post to the second. I mentioned that Ernest got into some rocks when we went wheeling so in between that trip and the time I bought the vehicle, he and Toasty installed a set of Trail Gear sliders on Lawrence :)
