Roger that, good to know!
I've checked the air box for leaks and found that the lid was not all the way down because one of the plastic clips is broken. So I've secured that with an additional metal clip now.
Next I'll spray the engine at idle with carb cleaner to see if I find any vacuum...
8/31/18: Went up to Flagstaff for Labor Day Weekend. Loaded up the wife + baby + gear in the Gen3 and took it out for some more testing: extended highway driving, steep uphill grades, and towing.
The Gen3 was a joy to drive on the highway and in my opinion is the superior generation in almost...
Great vehicle and to answer your question on pricing - It is a fair price assuming it runs well and checks out a full inspection. Not a steal and not a bad deal.
I'd ask for proof that the timing belt was done at 180k and if that can't be produced I'd want to knock $500 off the price.
As some of you may have noticed, my attention has been focused on my new to me Gen3 previously owned by Imnosaint and Marutuk. You can read about it here: https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/2003-montero-limited-lawrence-of-arizona.194361/
I forgot to update this build thread so here...
I'm just refreshing the upper front suspension right now to get it aligned - OTREs, ITREs, UBJs, and UCA bushings. Then if I decide to keep this Gen 3 over my Gen 2.5 I'll do the lower portion of the front suspension and a full rear suspension refresh.
If you're doing your entire front or rear...
FWIW - I have a genuine Mitsu 100amp alternator out of a 2001 Gen3. It needs to be rebuilt by an alternator shop but still a much better than buying an aftermarket o'reilly one. PM if you are interested.
What RPM does it do it in? Gen3s are notorious for doing it around 2000-2500rpm. If so you can try removing the rubber counter weight by the transmission and/or replacing the transmission cross member bushings.

Haha, no worries man. This is just a temporary fix for me too as my ultimate plan for whichever Montero I decide to keep would be to have Toasty build me a steel rear bumper.
Here you go, this should help you out:

I have Imnosaint's Gen3 now and the HD springs ride great! I mean, I'm used to a Gen 2.5 on KYBs with OME HD springs but in comparison this thing is like driving on a...
8/12/18: I got in a few hours of working on the rig today and knocked out a few little things.
1. First up was repairing some damage to the rear bumper from it's many previous 4x4 adventures. I think most of these battle scars came from ImNoSaint's Three Hour Tour in 2013.
Both reflectors were...
