Ditto - I check this thread almost every day.

Yep same here. I enjoy seeing all the fun little projects you do. Wish I knew how to weld though. I took a class years ago but haven't done anything with it since. Maybe once I get all the fire and ems classes out of the way I will look into it again.

Keep up the posts though, they are enjoyable!

Yeah, what they said. Those welds are really nice. I too check this thread most every day, and enjoy it. The welds on the axle truss, were those done with a 110v MIG or 220? Also, is my math right that those axles are running -2 degrees castor? +5 at the knuckle and -7 at the housing. This won't be negative castor in its installed state will it?

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
I'm using a 220v Millermatic 175, probably the least amount of machine for he job. I just went by the instructions, i have a hard time not doing things backwards or inverted. So hopefully my pictures made sense of how i set the truss. I know each application is a little different and we'll have adjustable radius arms but hopefully they are set close to what we need. This is my first time doing a radius arm setup, kind of learning as i go.
The 7 degrees is my pinion angle and the inner C's are at 5 degrees

Bead blasted the yokes, i used silicone tape to protect the seal surfaces from getting damaged. 20181004_075352.jpg

Gutted these yesterday, removed the inner axle seals and pinion races today then cleaned these pigs. Now i'm working on gear setup bearings (for hand removal and install), hopefully these will have new seals, gears and lockers in them tomorrow. Wishful thinking, today was a bit of a bummer with finding the inner axle seals that came in the master install kits were incorrect but everything else seems to be correct. Off to Vato zone for some correct seals.20181004_115831.jpg20181004_115957.jpg

That's not permanent, i just didn't want the truss to rust with all the humidity. I use Kyrlon, I'll paint these with a ton of thin coats so they'll look good and be easy to clean/touch up every year or as needed. Rust never sleeps! Look at me worrying about rust in Az.

Thanks for sharing your projects! It is inspiration for sure, I have to wait until my twins grow older than the 4 months to be able to go back and dedicate time to doing stuff to my Monty!

I graduated a welding/metal fab school and did not learn any of this. We were taught ship building work with 7016 being our roots.

Its been a few years. I understand the basics. I can mig and flux core a bit but stick welding was our core. And blue print reading. Oxy acetylene cutting...you want down-hard working kids, check here. Super nice program. Most don't want to work in the ship yards. Most looking for that monster garage, Sema job.
