Rings are done. Valve issue wouldn't change cylinder pressure with spoonful of oil added.
Leak down test will prove it. You'll hear air at the oil filler.

Swap part is easy. Fixing broken stuff "while you're in there" ate up a lot of time.
It was already converted by Advanced 4wd in Salt Lake City so the basics were there.
Stuff I fixed:
rotten inner fender under battery tray
replaced rotten tranny cooler lines
weld up 100 + holes in the...
I just put a 1993 5.2 L Magnum and a A518 overdrive trans in my 1984 B350 4x4 extended Dodge. Sure is nice when it drops into 4th gear and easily cruises at 75 mph. Forget the diesel swap. Both those engines are way too noisy for a van with the engine sitting right next to you.

Great rig. You've got a full frame under there, unlike all Dodge vans since 1971. Only the C class have them.
The Advanced 4x4 conversion is the same as on my 1984 B350. It's a Dana 44 front axle with leaf springs. The most slop to be rid of is in the spring bushings. Mine was so bad that...
I'm all for keeping transmission temps manageable, but I am leery about choking off the flow by 73% through reducing the cooler line size from 1/2" to 3/8". You don't want to starve the transmission of fluid on the return side of the circuit.
Before you leave check the factory spec for flow...
