Dude... So much truth. I was screaming yes, literally, while I read most of your post lol.
Especially the choosing line and footprint thing. A 1st gen Taco isn't the flexiest thing in the world but when you have a narrow and not long footprint you are massively reducing your need to flex...
The truck is cool. The flatbed awesome. The camper is sweet. Why the hell people spend money on fugly looking wheels and tires that have no sidewall on something they go off road in is beyond me.
Lol. Despite the billions of numbered anonymous trails how about the Morrison Jeep trail or FR 120 in Wyoming.
Switchbacks anyone? Link
Forest upper part of trail @1:04 lol Link
Here's FR 108 in Wyoming where I had to turn around due to a crazy side hill. I scared the crap out of myself...
This is just where I have no idea where you are coming from. There are plenty of marked forest roads that are almost side by side size that weave in and out of trees. I think the problem is coming from only going on well traveled routes and passes that are getting thousands of vehicles per year...
Agree to disagree I guess. I grew up wheeling in MI. Lived in New Hampshire and Mass for 12 years and have wheeled some everywhere in the US and Canada except the Southern states. While I enjoy off road challenges my vehicle was always my daily driver and usually just a small lift and 31-32"...
Everybody says this but they must never have to sit behind the full size vehicles taking forever on every obstacle or tight squeeze. Where there are forests or switch backs or rockfall this can be a problem. You hardly have to be on the Rubicon for a full size to be an issue.
Still plenty of...
Funny, mine arrived from e trailer with damage to the cover as well. I guess this is more than just isolated incidents with all these cases. Mine was damaged to the point it had holes ground through the cover in one spot. But I needed it for a 2 week trip the day after I got it so I was...
I did! I went with them in both the front and rear. Just finished my 1st serious off road trip with them and they worked completely awesome. Worked exactly as good as I hoped and are extremely predictable. No issues at all in 6k of driving and almost nothing in the way of a handicap. In really...
I went to Windsor Canada since I live close by to get the Sceptor fuel cans. Since they had one I picked up a water can too. Soo much better quality plastic and seals then the Front Runner stuff. I laid both the gas and water cans flat in a trunk to test them and they don't leak a drop. The...
With a short wheelbase and really light small trailer kinda sorta. I backed up a little at a time and probably would not have jackknifed a trailer. But it would make things so much harder. A lot of the switchbacks have ledges or small rockpiles that you have to get over from a dead start after...
Took a solo trip out to NW Wyoming. Goal was the Morrison Jeep Trail but the weather was terrible and had to go to plan B and hit the Sunlight Basin. Weather got good enough right at the end to do the Morrison trail. Happy trip. Was supposed to be a 2 week trip that got condensed to a week due...
Update 1. The wobble went away with load on the plastic when filled so that is good. 2 of the three plastic taps leak. 2 of the caps leak and don't seal no matter how hard you crank on them. I will cycle the plastic taps some more to make sure they just do not need to be broken in but it's a bit...
I just bought 3 of them and am less than impressed out of the box but I have not filled them up yet. I did buy one brass tap so if I have any leaks I can swap.
Well see but the quality of the plastic is not what I thought. One of my fill caps the threads are malformed. There is excessive...
I have 235/85R16 ST's and my old KO2's were wayyyy louder than the Coopers. It wasn't even a contest. Especially under 40MPH and over 50MPH. The BFG'S were pretty loud at cruising speed of 70 MPH. The cooper's you can't hear over the wind noise at that speed.
That price is crazy but I spent some coin on a clean 1st gen 4cylinder regular cab because that is what I wanted and I can't buy a new one even if I wanted to. Plus I just really don't like current gen Tacos and 4 Runners and I think those are equally insane price too for what you get.
To a...
Thanks for the responses.
I'm re-gearing so it's a now or never sort of thing.
I also have helical LSD's in two other vehicles and love the performance in every driving scenario except wheels in the air sort of stuff, although that is still manageable with ether parking brake or service...
So is there just ARB and Harrop E locker for this application? Wondering if I'm missing anything?
I don't really want to permanently mount my air compressor as a move it around a bunch of vehicles and honestly I seriously have lost count the amount of times I have seen some sort of leak make an...
