They seem interesting for a large a group not so good and expensive for 1-2 people.
They also seem like they would take a crap load of fuel to use in cold weather.
The space saving also goes out the window if you want to boil things and make rice etc. Then you still have to bring pots etc.
Thanks for the link! Pun intended lol.
This truck is ways 100% loaded with an RTT. I could not stand it just with worn shocks when I got it so I know I don't want to disconnect now. Maybe after a lift and higher spring rates but doubt it. I've always preferred them on all the Jeeps I've owned...
Strange question. What would be the best system in terms of storage footprint but not necessarily use? I want something to be compliant for short use in pack out only locations or emergencies. But honestly I think all I would really do is pee in a bottle and dump in a non-sensitive area later...
Hello all.
Doesn't seem to be available for 1st gen trucks. I tend to drive fast even in overland spec so I don't really want to get rid of the sway bar. In fact I have a stiffer one on my 2wd and I would get one for the 4wd if I could figure out a disconnect for it. Any one have a lead on...
Intended storing it upright in the front of a pickup bed strapped upright. Weight was semi irrelevant because I was planning on fueling in place. But it does seem fragile. Just a regular hose to siphon with might be more robust. Probably just wind up with two jerricans. Was curious though.
Has anyone put their hands on one of these? Is it robust enough for overlanding use? I really like the way it doesn't take up much more foot print than a 5 gallon jerry but has almost three times the capacity and can remain in place while fueling. Also super easy to top off gasoline lanterns...
So I have a Tacoma that I am not quite ready to lift yet. But on my first trip it became pretty apparent the spring rate of the leafs are shot. These were never the most robust leafs from the factory and at 150K with a big overlanding load they were close enough to bump stops to make every...
I for one think winches are highly overrated and some winch bumpers limit approach angle and are just stupid heavy. It's also amazing how often I have been with people who have winches that don't work exactly when you need them most.
I use these three things and have never managed to get stuck...
Hard to say. The unpainted body dings don't look good to me in terms of general real maintenance.
Also re-gearing that thing would be the first I would do over and above all those other things. Not saying this is the case with this vehicle but not re-gearing is a sign to me of a half *** or...
The Thule Xsporter is rated at 204kg 450lb. It's the only one CVT sells. Poking around several other flavors have much less capacity and at a glance look similar. Some of those were indeed rated much less in the 200lb range.
FWIW mine has done about 40 hours of 4-lo on trails I could not go...
That's a cool idea . I was thinking of getting a heavy duty trucking tarp made up to do the same that I could lock on somehow.
Which rack are you referring to? The Thule I have is rated to 450lbs and I actually bought it at CVT.
The tires were 5 years old but only 60% worn. I went narrower and taller. Which helped for sure but it's shocking how bad the BFG'S were even considering they were older.
I bought a Thule truck track that adjusts and an RTT as a stop gap solution when I flew out to buy a truck in Nevada and could not source any new or used aluminum cap. Fiberglass caps weigh too much and I don't care about the looks of them really so considering that the price is absurd.
So I...
Thanks. I'm thinking of maybe just rigging the ADD selector to stay locked all the time if I have issues and turning it into how your truck works. I don't really want the front end turning all the time but I know lots of vehicles do it and it would be way easier and cheaper than manual hubs.
This is exactly what I was worried about. I am also worried about something accidentally biasing (triggering) and then it trying to spin up the front driveline at freeway speeds. I'm not against manual hubs but it looks to be a bit of a pain in the *** and I don't really want to source used...
Cool to hear, about the ride anyway. I took a coworker for a ride that was last in my truck on BFG'S and he immediately asked what I did to make the ride so much better. He didn't believe it was just the Coopers at the same pressure as the BFG'S were. They really do ride amazing. Hope it lasts.
Not apples to apples but I just put 235/85 R16 ST MAXXES on a 1st gen with the OE wheels. Whether it is because of the narrower size, the different tire or both I don't know but I went from D to E with the Coopers and the E's ride like a dream compared to the D range BFG's I replaced. I was...
