The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Dan - WOW! What an adventure, 2.5 years and still a lot of Africa left! Thoroughly enjoying all your videos and posts. Now that you've probably experienced the full spectrum of performance from all of your equipment, is there a way you could post a "How would I do things differently (or the same...

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

@waveslider I think that's a slight mischaracterization. Phil is just a guy on a forum who helps us Land Cruiser guys solve problems using simple and thus cost-effective solutions. I doubt this is even a blip on Safe Jack's radar. Almost everything he sells, I doubt you could make yourself...

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

A 12k lb rated jack is big enough to lift a 7k lb axle OP is talking about under any type of surface condition. Going directly under the axle or control arm in case it's a IFS will provide the highest lift. Unless we're talking about a specific vehicle it's hard to know whether a particular Jack...

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

Those are way too big and used for stuff like the recovery shown above. Don't need that to change a tire or to unstuck a vehicle. I was suggesting something like this...

WTB: 2001 mostly stock LC with toy or lex badge. colorado, but will travel.

2003-05 are the best year 100 series to get, IMO (I may be a bit biased). 03 is the first year with the 5 speed transmission for lower cruise RPMs, better interior ergonomics and a host of other cosmetic stuff which helps for a more updated look. The later VVTi models have slightly better HP/TQ...

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

Got some pictures @grizzlyj ? 18x18x48 inches sounds huge for a deflated bag. That's like three 12v fridges stacked on top of each other! Sent from my Nokia 7.1 using Tapatalk

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

I believe they start at $2k plus. If you're traveling soft sand desert then that really might be the most effective way to lift a heavy truck... Sent from my Nokia 7.1 using Tapatalk

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

There are larger versions of the ARB X-Jack available and I bet they can lift any expedition truck. The price is probably an order of magnitude higher than ARB though. https://www.matjack.com/index.html

    Seatback Cover/Organizer

I have similar issues and installed the Coverking cordura seat covers which have MOLLE grid sewn into the backside. It also comes with a set of pouches which attach with the standard MOLLE straps, not velcro. Pretty decent quality if you overlook the haphazard sewing in places. The fit makes it...

***SOLD*** 2013 Nissan NV 4x4 Campervan ***Price Reduced***

Nice van, good luck with the sale! Not sure why these NVs are so under-appreciated. It checks all the boxes for a rugged durable camper-van - its the only body-on-frame van with a factory high roof, uses all 3/4 or 1 ton components in the driveline with or without 4x4, can fit 35" tires without...

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

I have been reading your build thread due to a personal interest in the T1N platform, and I really like your can-do attitude with all aspects of your build, including your response above. I have professional experience with suspensions in most kinds of land vehicles, all the way from...

    12 volt slow cooker

Here is my review of the Hot Logic after 20 days of continuous use on a trip. Love the product! I use it with a small 100W inverter. Even with the inverter the current draw is probably less than 5 amps which is ok as long as you're driving.

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

Projects are cool. For someone who's actively traveling to cut up their primary vehicle and take on a project of this magnitude is even cooler, and most certainly wasn't a decision taken lightly. @luthj what is your plan to preserve the original front-end geometry or at least evaluate the new...

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

First of all, thank you for sharing your adventures with the forum. As a fellow engineer, I would like to hear your rationale for converting rather than buying a different vehicle (apart from cost of buying and time invested, or is that it). Something drastic during your travels must have...

    TRED 800 traction boards

Selling a pair of brand-new TRED 800mm (31") traction boards which are similar to Maxtrax Minis (as yet unavailable). I believe ARB now owns the Australian-made TRED brand. Comes with roll-top storage bag. Never used (even has the zip ties which hold the pair together!) but the bag does have...

Canadian mapping App. BRMB...WORTH THE MONEY!

I have to go against the grain here and say BRMB did not work for me at all. I have successfully used mapping apps like Gaia, HEMA, Viewranger, Avenza, Delorme Earthmate and of course Google Maps/My Maps so I'm thinking it wasn't me, but I can't be certain because this app is so damn frustrating...
