    CJ5 Resto-Mod Project

Were you on that adventure? Sounds like you know a bit of history maybe you could share. Thanks. That's my job. Push the envelope and keep you guys interested. Update - still (sigh) working on the body, though only one fender is left. I got the hood, grill and one fender completely done and...

That's great! I felt the same commitment when I had to cut the tailshaft of the H55F for the black box install. No turning back now...

    CJ5 Resto-Mod Project

Build it how you want it. Don't worry about perfect bodywork. Deciding what character stays and what needs to be repaired is the hard part. As per the story and history of Jeep and "Jeeping", I live only miles from Jeep Jamboree HQ, where they have a small display of Mark Smith's private...

Thanks. I think everyone's first 4x4 love was probably a Jeep. I know mine was. The history and utility were what got me hooked. The Jeep adverts of the 50's and 60's are stylish and simple and made me want to get out into the back 40 and go hunting or exploring. My main customer base is...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Thanks. Here's a link to an article about the truck in Fourwheeler Magazine - http://www.fourwheeler.com/features/1702-1985-toyota-land-cruiser-fj60-a-classic-with-modern-power/

Maybe I missed it, but is that ride height? The tucked in bumper is definitely outside the box thinking. Guys need to push the envelope more often. The only problem I can see with the winch being so low is the winch line getting beat up.

Still, there's got to be some fabrication shops capable of building you something. Looks good without the steps.

Great looking 60 and only $3000? Man, I wish I could find a nice one.

Thanks Jack. You guys getting sunlight up there in Reno today? I love winter, but enough is enough. The other hood was also a 1974 hood. I'm not surprised anymore when I come across glaringly obvious differences. This was a tough time for Jeep.

As mentioned, the passenger side corner of the hood took a hit at some point. I made a template from the other side, which was in great shape, so that I could make sure the side I was repairing was the same. It wasn't, so some cutting, bending and welding brought it back into shape. Probably...

More body work. The fenders and grill needed some attention, but I could have sworn that the hood was in good shape. I guess blasting it revealed the previous hidden crunch in the front corner. Luckily I am good with metal, it's only time and patience. Hood in all its blasted, clean metal...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Just finished the 3.70 R&P swap. First impressions? I like it. For this truck and it's intended use, they should work out fine. Now let's see what the mileage gods bring... Only one manufacturer sells the gears though. Randy's. And they weren't cheap.

I was wondering how you achieved that tire clearance with those monster tires. My friend Trevor Huiskens runs full hydro steering with OEM TRE's on his personal rig. I think he built it that way as a kind of in-your-face to the hardcore crowd, but it actually works.

What about having custom bumpers made? There has to be a fabrication shop that can handle that kind of work. After all, the UK is home to most of the F1 teams!

Using a TRE on a ram assist is a great idea. If it's a quality joint, it should last a very long time. What wheels are you using? Size and offset/back space?

That's precisely the way I see it. If it were a later Jeep, I'd have a harder time pushing the idea. On a side note, finding correct paint colors is proving to be a problem. As most of you may know, California paints are different and work well when the painter knows what he's working with, but...

    CJ5 Resto-Mod Project

There's a clear division of style between the '60's and 70's Jeep CJ. My original plan was to build it with styling cues associated with the early models. No roll bar, non metallic paint, earth tone colors, black windshield. I'm on the fence, but if I went with the later color, I feel like I'd...

I was able to figure it out. The paint code comes up as Fairway Green, with trim code vinyl "buff". I assume buff is something other than black. Fairway Green isn't a bad color. I really was set on some sort of beige, but as long as it doesn't look military, I could go for green.

    CJ5 Resto-Mod Project

Your point of view is totally appreciated. The Fawn Beige color is very compelling, and, as you say, era correct. My justification for making the body color choice was that the originality ship had already sailed. Most people can identify with the early Jeeps, and Jeep's marketing campaigns of...

    Hound-FJ62 LS3/4L65E Connect and Cruise

I hoard hardware like a squirrel. One of the benefits of taking in donor vehicles (when doing motor swaps, etc) is that I get to strip the vehicle for all its hdw. Most times the hdw is in nice shape and finds its way onto a customer's project, plating intact. And it's OEM to boot.
