Another month of body work? I hope not. Maybe by the end of the week? Now I've got to pick a color...

    CJ5 Resto-Mod Project

Once the body had it's strength repaired, the floor panel on the driver's side was removed. It was pretty rusty and had a million holes in it from years of mods, roll cages, wiring, etc. God only knows what goes through the mind of a novice with a drill. Here's the floor section before. And...

I had my dad come up to help for a day. Though he spent his life as a tax lawyer and accountant, he is a pretty accomplished auto restorer. His knowledge of lead body filler was required on a few key areas and I put him to work. Here's one finished corner. The tops were filled with lead, to...

If anyone had told me at the beginning of December that I'd still be doing metalwork on the tub at the end of January, I'd have said no way. But here we are and I'm still going. I will say, this body is going to be ultra straight and all metal. Minimal body filler just to smooth everything out...

Oh, that's right. You're using the radius arm setup. I've seen bellhousings with driver side starters and even rear mounted starters, but a simpler solution is always best. What's a little grinding anyway...?

What paint do you use on the rotors?

I am curious what you're going to do with the front driveshaft. Are you able to fit a one piece shaft in that chassis, with enough clearance around the lower links?

I ran into the same problem with my 40 build last year. The 42" tires on a 65" wide axle hit the upper fender/hood sides and grill area. My hands were tied as the customer was on a tight budget (budget truggy?) and we did have to compromise with limited uptravle on the front end. It worked out...

Seat brackets look great. Very clean. Access holes? I might consider access panels instead, as in, maybe a whole removable top or area around the t-case front output. I don't know what access from under the truck is like, but just think about what kind of repairs you might need to do on the...

    Jeep pickup is for reals

The bed on it looks rather ugly. Why don't they build it like the concept? I would go for that.

Thank you. That's my hope, that it will be one of the nicest. I want clean, sharp lines in the body and flawless mechanical systems. I've driven it already and it drives nicer than most. Thank you guys.

These older AMC era Jeep bodies are pretty horribly put together. When comparing side to side measurements, they can vary quite a lot. The rear corners, before I installed the tailgate, were off almost 3/8 of an inch. Spending some time "blueprinting" the body will really show in the final...

More floor patch, this time under the storage compartment. Here's the whole passenger side complete with repairs.

Repairing some of the tears in the metal, it's easier to cut out the section and fab up a new patch. This door pin hole in the jamb is a good example.

Then I started on the floor patch. After that patch was welded up and ground smooth, the body mount went on. I strategically make the cuts for the patch panels directly over the strengthening rib flanges to help keep things nice and tidy.

The body was in pretty good shape overall, but there was some rust in the floors and body supports, plus a few cracks and a lot of holes drilled over the years. Here's the front passenger side body mount. The whole thing needed to be replaced so I bent one up and removed the old one. Before I...

Getting the tub back from the blasters. They always want to apply the sealer, and I understand why, but it really makes the repairs impossible, so here it is in bare metal. And then I brought it home and put it up on the rotisserie.

Back on the Jeep project again. So many things keeping me busy in the shop, these personal jobs take a serious back seat. The time came for the body to come off so the remaining body work could be done. I took many pics during disassembly and logged and bagged all the small parts and then the...

I'm facing the same issue right now with a CJ5 I'm restoring. I've got the body tub in bare metal and I'm doing all the repairs on a rotisserie, but the toe boards do pop back and forth a tad. I really don't want to use any kind of a liner, because A- it's not original, and B- I have seen so...
