    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

I ran into that same problem on the FJ40 buggy I built last year. I'm curious to see what you come up with for the passenger side bracket. I should have angled the seats like you are. Though not much, it would have lowered them a bit. That truck's seating position was tall, but then we also ran...

    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

Final welding is a *****. It's all beautiful now, but after applying lots of heat, things get twisted. I have been TIG welding as much as I can on sheet metal, and that greatly reduces the warpage, but there's always that worry. I've also been trying to build individual modules that I weld...

When I built my shop, I put two floor drains in and one of them is right under the two post lift, but I still haven't gotten up the courage to pressure wash in the shop. You are brave. I do plan on buying another 4 post lift for outside, mainly for pressure washing. Nice work.

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Thanks everybody for the input. Towing is definitely going to be a concern with 3.70's. I don't know where the RPM/shift point is with that engine, but he may have to drop down into 4th while towing up inclines. 5th is only .84 so dropping down a gear won't be the end of the world. I've owned...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Great minds... So we're actually thinking of going with 3.70 gears. I'm on the fence, but it turns out that mileage is big on the owner's list. I think it will be ok, even offroad. It will definitely make first gear usable around town, as it's a granny gear and totally useless right now. The...

I think the next one I build is going to have radius arms and coils up front. I know guys are swapping in whole FJ80 chassis' under their FJ60's, but I wonder how similar the frames are, if a simple radius arm conversion on the 60 chassis is more appropriate. I don't really want coils in the...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Thanks Stan. That's what I figured. The 4L60E has a .70 overdrive, and the H55F has a .85 overdrive. Using a calculator, the difference between the 4L60E with 33's and the H55F with 34's is about 400 RPM. With the taller tires on this rig, it may just work out.

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Drive Time My friend Harry called and wanted to go for a drive, to grab a few pics. He lives about an hour and a half from me so we met in the middle in Colfax, then headed out to the old town of Iowa Hill, then turned south to Yankee Jim's. It was snowing when we left Colfax, and the sun...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Another detail item was the small death wobble. It occurred very rarely, but even rarely is too often. After confirming that the joints and bushings were all tight, and the toe and tire pressure were good, I took a measurement off the knuckle and it only had 2.5 degrees of caster. Replacing the...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

The stock steering box had a little clunk in it and the customer gave me the go ahead to replace it. Searching around, I found out that the FJ80 box had quicker gears in it, which would make this truck nicer to drive on the road. I found a couple reman boxes online, but they were rediculously...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

There's always a mile long list of finishing touches needed to finish a project. We took a few moments to tidy up some wiring, add a few circuits for future accessories, I re-sealed all the heater ducting connections, using foam tape, made sure nothing rattled anywhere, etc. We also installed...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

I think that's a wise choice. Personally, I love this truck and the next build I do for myself is going to be this exact build. Maybe I'll use a 4L60E auto... Using a FJ62 to start might be a good idea too, as there are subtle differences/improvements. The one thing I really do like about the...

Thanks Ollie! So the Cruiser is gone. Actually on it's way home as we speak. I am compiling the remaining photos and uploading them to Photobucket now, but I had one question for you guys. The truck came to me with 4.88's in the diffs, and we left them so he could figure out for himself if...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Still have a few things to button up. The front end had a slight shimmy which finally produced a small death wobble. Any death wobble is unacceptable in my work, so the truck went on the lift for a compete inspection. I had already rebuilt the axle with new trunion bearings and new wheel...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

I told you I had something in store for the tach. Here it is! The original face only read about 4300 RPM, so we had to change the scale on the face. We decided to go to 7000 RPMs, but I added a personal touch. Check it out. Deciding on a style hinged upon the small size of the gauge itself...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Sorry for the delay in posting. The project is coming to an end and I have been very busy tidying up all the loose ends. I had considerable trouble with the A/C system wiring. The A/C electrical system had previously been bypassed in a hasty repair. I diagnosed the A/C amplifier as the culprit...
