Thanks for the link. Even if it did pertain to non commercial vehicles, there's nothing in there that prevents transport inside the passenger compartment.
Thank you all for the thoughts and interesting discussion. There has been much mention of fuel storage inside the passenger compartment being illegal. Has anyone actually found wording in any federal or state regulation to that effect? Please do share....
I understand the respiratory risk, but most vehicles do have windows that wind down :). Since you brought up foam-filled bladders, perhaps using a roto-molded or other off-the-shelf fuel cell is not such a bad idea? The only problem then becomes, how do you fill and empty it.
Thanks for the reply. I know there is a much negativity about this idea, but not a whole lot of objectivity. That's what I'm looking for - someone who has actually done this successfully and can comment on the various potential downsides. I don't see much, but then again, I come from a formula...
Hi all,
I've been reading the VDEG extensively, and Tom Sheppard endorses whole-heartedly the idea of storing fuel inside the vehicle on a "jerry can pallet". His is just behind the drivers seat for the best weight distribution as shown below:
This makes sense to me. But what I'd like to...
Thought I'd add to the discussion with my data. Fridge is an 86qt Edgestar, stock 12V power cord with a GT Power RC130A meter wired in-line. This is actual usage during an expedition, with the fridge being stuffed to the gills with food. The voltage is at the end of the time period. Obviously...
After some deliberation I decided to go with a bigger battery instead of solar for now. It's not a group 31, but it is an AGM sold by Sams club with similar capacity (92 Ah vs 100 Ah). It was almost a direct fit, and $170 vs $300. Also bought a watt meter so I can accurately measure all the...
I have seen these at the local hd and they're nice for rugged storage. Inside a truck where they're stored 99% of the time, is that ruggedness and waterproof ability really needed, I wonder?
thank you guys for the replies and the video, it was pretty unscientific but informational nonetheless :) .
I checked out the really useful boxes at Office Depot and I think it fits the bill for now! They even have an "extra strong" version available on their website, seems worth checking out.
I think the tough system wastes quite a bit of space for what is added "toughness" but I dont think that's really necessary for storing stuff inside the truck.
The T-stak looks a lot more appealing though!
Hi guys,
Just wondering if any of you have come across or are using HDPE or similar vertical wall containers for in-vehicle storage? Everything I am finding at the local places like HD etc. are designed to ship cheaply rather than maximise efficiency so they nest inside each other. I am looking...
Do you have a link to the ones you bought. Amazon is flooded with so many different varieties, its hard to narrow it down.
Yup, I think that is what I'm going with for now. Is the renogy suitcase the only one to consider, or are there other alternatives I missed during my search? I dont want...
Thank you all for the advice so far. I'm refraining from going the whole hog just yet. One reason is that this is a group trip and there will always be someone to help out if I run the battery down. I cannot justify the cost of a group 31 AND solar for this trip alone, so I want to do as little...
But if you're driving during the day, you arrive with a full battery and should only need enough capacity until the next morning when solar kicks in, no?
Thanks for the reply. The 50w was really just based off of 2x27w work lights that I was planning to get. Agreed that it's a lot of lighting, maybe I should just get some rope lighting for constant on and just use the work lights when necessary.
Hey guys,
After some extensive searching, I feel like I could still do with some advice.
I have an LX470 aka 100 series Land Cruiser. It currently has the OEM Lexus battery with about 4 years left on the warranty, but I dont know its maintenance history. My power needs are middle-of-the-road...
