FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

I just realized I need to get more pics of the finished radiator fan shroud, but here's what I have now.

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Here's the power steering system. I ditched the Toyota cooler line in favor of the OEM GM finned cooler, which I had to modify and fit in front of the A/C condenser. The OEM fitting coming out of the pump was the EVO (electronic variable orifice) style, so I purchased a custom -6 AN fitting...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Things are moving right along on this project. I've had to pinch myself to make sure that this isn't a dream (usually I run into a lot more hangups). The exhaust system is done, as well as the power steering plumbing and fan shroud. I guess I should say, I think they're done. I don't yet know...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Thanks again Pete. Sometimes the customer needs to be swayed one direction or another. I've learned over the years not to let them talk me into doing something I don't agree with. Also, asking them if they are willing to allow me to flex my muscles a bit usually nets a "yes" response. You just...

    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

It's coming along nicely. Bending and forming new metal is so fulfilling, and the end result is not the only reason it's fun. It's very soothing for me to work with sheetmetal. Having the right tools for the job makes it that much less frustrating. Remember the days when only specialty shops...

FJ80 Stock Front Pinion Angle - Tips On A Cut And Turn

Even though the balls have a tight press fit, they can still tweak during welding. Plan your welding. Maybe tack it first with a couple good, strong tack welds and then check for movement, then burn it in place. Do the same welding sequence on both sides for consistency.

    The Mongrel: FJ62 body + FZJ80 chassis + turbo diesel + ???

Which engine will make it worth more? The better one. The resto-mod movement is based on a mindset that allows artistic license on the things you see and touch (body and interior) but demands the reliability of modern drivetrain components. Would it be worth more with a Toyota engine? Only if...

    The Mongrel: FJ62 body + FZJ80 chassis + turbo diesel + ???

It really is an awesome truck and I can't wait to see it finished. Using a mix of factory components is one of the best ways to utilize what you have and stay within a budget. BTW- The owner of this FJ60 I'm working on right now wants to take it to Tierra del Fuego when it's done. What's with...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

AA is kind of like Target. They have everything. There may be more intricate parts on the market, but AA's product line doesn't include anything that sucks. I always give them first shot. The V-band clamps are awesome. When I use them, I make the tubing of one side slip into the v-band ring of...

    LC or 4R?

OK, I was referring to the Tacoma, which is largely built on our continent, and the same basic vehicle.

    LC or 4R?

Call me callous, but thinking you can control the longevity of a vehicle by proper maintenance is delusional. Parts fail...or they don't. So to answer your question, I wouldn't bat an eye at a sub 150K miles LC. Age and heat cycles take a far greater toll on a vehicles lifespan than mileage does.

FJ80 Stock Front Pinion Angle - Tips On A Cut And Turn

Caster and pinion angle are relative measurements, so not knowing the caster won't matter for what you're doing. I don't have the exact numbers, but I do know the caster is in the 5-6 range and the factory pinion angle does not tip up much at all. I bet it's only 2 or 3 degrees. I hope this is...

    LC or 4R?

The LC is the only vehicle left in Toyota's North American lineup that has that rugged-from-the-ground-up bloodline left in it. I do realize we're talking about 100 series, and not a FJ80, but still, when compared to a V6 powered, mini truck based, American built design, it seems to me that the...

    Differential question.

You're not giving us a lot to go on here. If it's a 5 lug LC axle from a 70 series truck, then a 6 lug hub from a 60 series truck should bolt on. That's just an example. Get us some more info, possibly a pic or two.

    Box Rocket 1995 FZJ80 Build

Revving is not always a bad thing. Engines have sweet spots that they like, due to combustion chamber and port efficiency, cam profile, exhaust scavenging. I bet with the new gears, the engine is closer to that sweet spot than it was with 4.10's.

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Building the fan shroud. I wanted it to be deep to maximize the airflow through the whole radiator core, also to help keep the air focused as it exits the shroud. Normally I'd use aluminum, but the whole nature of this build is rugged-ness, and steel is so much more forgiving when it comes to...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Completed y-pipe assembly. In this pic you can see a plate above the crossover section. That is 12ga steel that will eventually be a lower bellhousing cover for the original 2F bellhousing. I had it in place to make sure the tubing cleared.

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Making some good progress here. Started on the fan shroud yesterday and got the y-pipe done too. We decided to use the Advance Adapters headers based on the simplicity. Also, they are a small runner design so the torque should be good. They use 16ga tubing as opposed to other manufacturer's...
