    Vehicle donors for trailer axle (5 x 4.5" BP & 60-65"W)

Good point. I'll have to check into that. Typically, though, Michigan is one of the most lax states in regards to DOT requirements. :sombrero: Good in some cases, but scary as hell when you see some of the "cobble-job" Jeep projects people are driving down the road. Again, the issue is...

    Vehicle donors for trailer axle (5 x 4.5" BP & 60-65"W)

That's inexpensive relative to the Dexter stuff I was seeing. My perception is that Dexter is somewhat of an industry leader with axles, but I mentioned in another post that I wasn't at all impressed with their customer service when I talked with them. I'm completely open to a standard trailer...

    Vehicle donors for trailer axle (5 x 4.5" BP & 60-65"W)

I'm still at a loss as to what I'm going to use for an axle for my trailer. As a variation on this "Sourcing axles from common vehicles" thread, I'm hoping to get a listing of vehicles that may provide a donor axle for my trailer project (link in my signature). I'm looking specifically for...

If you liked that one.....How about this "lift Deck" trailer

I saw this post the other day when browsing briefly on my iPod, and didn't have a chance to reply. That is some of the coolest, most practical trailer innovation I have seen. Very nice work! Craig

Sourcing axles from common vehicles ?

I'm still trying to figure out an axle solution that'll allow me to use my Jeep Ravine wheels, but I'm having a hard time locating information on these Caravan beam axles. Whatever I use, I need to be able to keep 5 x 4.5" wheel bolt pattern, and have enough clearance for the 5.25" backspacing...

My old '76 Chief got a whopping 9-ish MPG with a 360 and Quadratrac. Fun vehicle, but painful at the pump! Craig

    Dexter Axles: Input needed, please

Thanks everyone. I'm sold on not getting a Torflex axle. As far as the wheels go, I didn't realize spacers would be the only option (I don't want to hole-saw the centers of mine). Given this recent development, I may just look for a donor Jeep XJ/TJ/YJ axle, then weld on new spring perches...

    Dexter Axles: Input needed, please

Thanks YouAndI. I'll definitely keep it in mind, but I struggle with the idea of "mining" information from a business with whom I don't plan on spending money. Their time is valuable, and I don't want to waste it. They look like cool trailers, just not something I'm planning on buying...

Hi-Lift bar & foot for rear stabilizer legs?

That doesn't level the rear of the trailer though, right? It just keeps it from tipping backward, IIRC. Craig

    Dexter Axles: Input needed, please

I quickly measured the center hole on my Jeep Ravine wheel this morning, and the diameter is only ~2 1/8"...too small for the Dexter hubs. So how are people handling this on their trailers with OEM aluminum wheels?

Hi-Lift bar & foot for rear stabilizer legs?

Valid point. I like your set-up, BTW. What model/part # did you get for your jack? I have been trying to find a site that details the differences between all the various Bulldog models, but never did find a manufacturer site for them. Craig

Sourcing axles from common vehicles ?

Can someone enlighten me on the potential use of one of these Dodge minivan rear axles for my trailer build? I'll want to use OEM Jeep Ravine wheels (5 x 4.5" BP, 5.25" of backspacing) on the trailer that I'll be pulling behind my 2005 Jeep LJ (~60.5" rear axle width). It's a "little Jeep"...

Hi-Lift bar & foot for rear stabilizer legs?

Thanks guys. It would essentially be the same concept as the Conqueror trailer, only using the off-the-shelf Hi-Lift parts. My idea behind the Hi-Lift parts is that all the holes are obviously ready to go vs. buying tubing (round or square) and having to drill a plethora of adjustment...

Hi-Lift bar & foot for rear stabilizer legs?

I have seen complete Hi-Lift jacks mounted to both rear corners of a trailer, and used as stabilizer jacks. Since you can buy just the parts, has anyone used just the bar & foot (with a pin) through a piece of rectangular tubing as a leveling legs? My though is that I'd weld a round rotating...

    Dexter Axles: Input needed, please

Thanks Martyn. I have actually read through that article (good write-up, BTW), but since I plan on mostly using the trailer mostly on-road, I though the Torflex would work pretty well for me. However, I suppose a leaf-sprung axle would probably be more flexible (no pun intended), but due to...

    Dexter Axles: Input needed, please

First, you can CLICK HERE for my trailer build thread for full details. Dexter Axle seems to be the brand to go with based on what I have seen here on the forum. I thought they were local to my old "stomping grounds" (Elkhart, Indiana), but found out this morning that they closed that plant...
