    LR3 gearing

Well, if you want a batch of 50 we can get them made...pretty hard to find 50 guys wanting gears for an LR3 though as I'm not looking to go into the Rover parts business.

    LR3 gearing

Wait - aren't you supposed to be the one PROVIDING the parts??? BTW - you really should come visit us out here in the west. I keep hearing rumors....

    LR3 gearing

OK, here's a question for you. Maybe out dealer-techs will have some input. I am not aware of any aftermarket gears for the LR3. Since most people don't run over 32" tires there's not a lot of demand. But some of us are running 33s and a handful are or have at least tried 35s. By the time...

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

I don't know if it was the Evoque that killed Rover, but I agree with you about the timing and direction of the company. I suspect it's the same reason all manufacturers push SUVs - high profit margins. They're relatively cheap to build but can be sold for high dollars. I know those of us who...

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

Yeah...if you can stomach being a 'jeep person'. It's not that the Wrangler isn't a great off-road platform. It is. Heck, a JK can be built much more easily and can wheel circles around any late-model Rover. But the Jeep crowd can be a little, mmmm.....let's just say different than the...

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

I've been seeing the spy photos for quite some time and keep telling myself 'it's just a disguise...it won't really look like that'. But in my heart I know it's all over for Land Rover. Each generation gets a little softer, a little harder to modify, a little more luxury, a little more...

Deal on Lifepo4 aux power solution - Energy Bar 225

I see they rate it in watt/hours, not amp/hours like a traditional battery. 225 w/h would be approximately (12v*18.75a=225w/h) 18.75 a/h. Since this is a LifePo4 I realize you can run that down to 0 where you can't discharge a typical flooded or AGM past 50% (70% would be better) but is that...

    Intelligent wiring

I think these two sum it up. I've dealt with similar systems installed by the OEM on some boats and it's more of a PITA than anything as far as I'm concerned. It's got the 'gee whiz' factor that you can program one switch to do many things so if you want to bring down light group A while...

Any input on these batteries ?

Oh, and I'm guessing the charger they sell is a rebranded ProMariner from a cursory glance. I never quite trust the 'store brand' items like this, but if it's really just a name brand product with the store logo slapped on it and sold at a discount it should be OK. I'd still feel more...

Any input on these batteries ?

I've always wondered what a 'marine' battery is. Being that I work in the marine industry I use deep cycle batteries (flooded or AGM) for house loads, starting batteries for starting loads, and dual purpose batteries for small boats that don't have dedicated services. So....which one is the...

    An LR3 on the Rubicon

I do not have empirical evidence to say exactly what happened, just a gut feeling and assumptions. Admit it or not, that's what most things come down to with mods and results. Mine were approximately 2 years old; I forget exactly when I installed them. I have had no specific problems with the...

California Defender owners please chime in

Funny, I moved TO California because my and my wife's entire immediate families WEREN'T here.... :) In all seriousness though I don't have a real answer for you. It's a PITA and don't expect to get any straight answer from the DMV or CARB on how to circumvent them.

    An LR3 on the Rubicon

Here's all the photos I've got: https://goo.gl/photos/jWHxnecygy65o4ZV8 I can't embed them here since Google Photos doesn't support it - sorry.

    An LR3 on the Rubicon

The single biggest limitation of the LR3 in this sort of stuff is break-over angle. It's pretty miserable. Even with Johnon Rods in Off-Road height I have about the same clearnce at the rockers as my RRC with 1" lift on 29" tires. People always talk about how the LR3 has more clearance...

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

Too many pretty pictures recently. Time for something more....abusive. :) A couple shots of the LR3 on the 'Con last month. And as if those pics weren't enough of a sales pitch for good sliders...sometimes the lack of break-over on the LR3 is really evident. This pic makes me think...

    Am I Crazy????

There is no comparison between the LR3 and the D2. Worlds apart. Somebody recently said comparing reliability between a D2 and an LR3 wasn't apples to oranges, it was apples to rocks. Can the LR3 be problematic? Sure, I guess. My '07 has 130K miles and was pampered (owned by a local winery)...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

The upper tailgate is what this latch releases. The actual latching mechanism for the upper is located in the lower; the upper just has a bar that's captured when the lower latches onto it. Take a look the next time you open the back and it will make more sense than I can describing it.

Looking for the Round Push Button Door Latches utilised on Earth Roamers, and Others.

Since Earthroamer seems to sorta follow the yachting world, I too would vote Southco as they are very common on boats.

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

Just curious why so many think it's a design flaw or can't believe LR didn't install an inside release? I suspect it's something 99% of people would never use. The ONLY people who would be likely to use it are those who've had a failure or perhaps those who sleep in the back of the...

Better wire for solar panels -> charge controller?

Anchor marine rated wire will certainly be more than enough to handle your needs. It's USCG rated for use in bilges (oil/diesel/gas/abrasion/etc resistance), uses a very fine-stranded wire so it's soft and flexible even at larger sizes, and it's tinned copper to boot for extra corrosion...
