HAhahah, I don't know. I assumed it went on the bottom. After examining above and below the spring, the spacer clearly fit better underneath...I imagine it will stay put better down there too. Hope I got that right. Just got it aligned and the guys said the work looked good...So I'm going...
Lift and Shocks
I've been having trouble uploading pics from Baja... I can select them in the basic uploader, but when I hit upload, they never show up on the post... Frustrating. Also, the images I am able to upload are rotated sideways or upside down sometimes. Help anyone?
Anyways, spent...
Pic from Death Valley canyoneering trip before lift+shocks. Dragged belly and front/rear bumpers a number of times and realized we needed some more clearance before embarking on the yearlong trip from Baja to the Arctic Ocean.
Just installed the Bilstein 5100s, torsion keys (+2.5 inches) and...
Hey no jeepshere you can follow the build thread posted below, and @katcarney on instagram or Kat Carney Photography on facebook to follow our progress!
A year on the road. That sounds like a great trip, keep us in the loop both as you prepare and when you hit the road. I will be spending a couple on months in AK, Yukon and NWT in July and August.

This thread is killer. I already made your awning, now working on this. So I am looking to run a 40L 12v fridge (Indel B or Dometic), some small interior LEDs, and laptop/camera batteries/phones for my photographer ladyfriend. I am trying to make sure I am getting everything I need. Here is...
SUBURBAN
Preparing our 2002 Suburban Z71 4x4 (with G80) for a yearlong trip from Baja to the Arctic Ocean beginning in Sept 2016.
Things done: Cooper Discoverer AT/3 255/75r17, homemade awning, Hi-Lift+shovel mounts, LED interior lights, homemade trasharoo
Things to do: Small torsion...
Trasharoo
Saw the Trasharoo and love the idea of keeping the trash outside the truck. Had an old duffel lying around, so I butchered it to make my own.
And used the duffel scraps to keep the grime off the moving parts of the hi-lift.
And the Cooper Discoverer AT/3 255/75/17
Put some...
Update
Replaced all the interior lights with LEDs. Supposed to draw 1/10th the power of regular bulbs.
Also picked up a cargo box with a sweet snail sticker on craigslist for $50. Should fit a bunch of lightweight but voluminous gear (sleeping bags, ropes etc)
Also ordered some new...
Awesome update
I've got the knock sensor code too! And I just had the intake manifold gasket replaced! I also have a fuel gauge that has gone haywire, so to get the SES light off I think I will need to fix both.
EVLDAVE YOU ARE THE MAN!
Here is a link to mine. Almost exactly the same except bigger...and normal tarp not canvas.

Awning
Finished the awning. Used the design from evldave. That dude is the MAN. Planning on putting together his double battery and solar systems as well.

The burb needs new shocks. So I'm thinking bilstein 5100 in the front to get 2" lift. Do any of you guys use 1-2" spacers in the back? If I get spacers and longer shocks can I still maintain full wheel travel?
In the works for comfort and convenience are: Side awning, hanging shelf/counter for cooking under the awning, dual battery/solar, fridge, sleeping platform. If we are in good weather we prefer to sleep out in sleeping bags on a tarp. Infinite head room that way. In bad weather/urban...
Yea, might be a good idea to stay away from the treadwrights. Will keep looking. Already planning on the roof box. Great idea! planning on storing high volume/low weight stuff. I think we will be able to fill the whole thing with winter down clothing during the warmer months :) I am kicking...
Tires
Trying to decide between:
265/70 17 124/tire 31.6 x 10.4
245/75 17 99/tire 31.5 x 9.7
235/80 17 109/tire 31.8 x 9.25
Or go up in size to 285/70 17 144/tire 32.7x11
Whatever I choose will be E rated Treadwright Warden. Thoughts?
