Northern Lite 610 for 1/2 Ton PU

It's not illegal in the US unless you are a commercial hauler, and insurance companies do pay, because that is what insurance is for. I know, some people like neat and tidy numbers, but reality isn't like that. And I am an engineer, BTW.

    Silverado bigger gears?

People often say that after they've wasted $$$... :p No doubt it will feel peppier off the line... but what other real benefit could there be? Also, I don't know about your truck, but my 385hp monstrosity is never lacking for "pep". However the stock Toyota AI enhanced throttle control was...

Hierarchy of hard sided campers that handle the snow/winter?

Do you know what it weighs? Has it been rebuilt? I found a photo of one on a Tacoma...

    Silverado bigger gears?

In the old days it was taken for granted that higher gearing was better for MPG, not lower! With my truck specifically, some were theorizing that the ECU would get confused with higher gearing and a load, plus the transmission would spend more time between gears rather than locking into one. I...

    Small sized Lithium batteries

Basically the bigger ones had lots of space that was stuffed with foam. I bought one of these about 6 months back and it seems legit. BT is great for checking that the cells are balancing properly and working as designed. It's only $150 shipped now on Amazon, almost free. Elefast 12V 100Ah...

    Silverado bigger gears?

My 2c... Everyone told me I needed a regear, both for decent performance and MPG. E rated AT tires are 9% bigger than stock and it's leveled with a constant heavy load and higher wind resistance. I'm not seeing the point though. I'm averaging a hair under 15 mpg on the highway, and it drives...

    255/85r17 Anyone running them?

Curious about your experiences with each... compare and contrast ride, traction, handling, etc. You'll need quite a bit more pressure for the skinny tires.

Northern Lite 610 for 1/2 Ton PU

Ah yes. Considering that he was carrying about 2600 lbs when it failed, and previously 1,000 lbs more (!) for 80k miles and was "rock crawling" when he had the failure, I don't think that speaks poorly of Tacomas carrying high payloads. There are several other anecdotes in the thread regarding...

Northern Lite 610 for 1/2 Ton PU

The axle rating may have more to do with springs and tires, especially on a 1/2 ton. It's still a CYA warranty/liability number, not related to any standard or testing. The AT Overland camper build?

Northern Lite 610 for 1/2 Ton PU

You gave payload numbers which are GVWR minus empty weight, and then you said 2300 lbs was "not safe". The great majority of Tacomas with a camper of any kind, overland built, and loaded for a trip, are going to be >2300 lbs above stock weight. Lots of them are out there...

Northern Lite 610 for 1/2 Ton PU

GVWR has nothing to do with safety. It's the manufacturer-set CYA warranty and liability number, based on the bone stock vehicle. If you make intelligent upgrades to a decent 1/2 ton, it will quite safely handle more weight than the sticker says, and ride, handle, and stop better than the...

Nomad Euphoria RV - Interesting option

I always loved the handling of the MB1. Besides the fact that it's a rigid bike, why was it scary on bumps or high speeds? The slack head angle is stable at high speed, but it feels strange when I want to turn... like it takes too much input, and once it starts to move it wants to move a lot...

    Outpost Truck Campers

That's exactly how I made mine. The forward part of the camper and under the berth is a prime place for storage, especially heavy stuff. Have the berth hug the cab roof, and get rid of the basement...

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

^ Converting from 12V to 120VAC and back to 24V, is better than what? You can have a good amount of wiring loss before you exceed what you lose in AC-DC conversions.

    Truck guns?

And those damn things are everywhere!!! Seriously, we need to start selling tags.... :ROFLMAO: I'm currently in S AZ and have done a lot of camping here. I've had a couple close encounters with mountain lions, but rattlesnakes are by far the most common/dangerous. Thankfully they usually...
