I was about to do this to the Ute when I sold it. My plan was to cut part of the wheel well and box it in to make room for the clutch. I calculated ~$6k for the swap and opted to mog instead.
Cheers!
Holy-moly, the "bigger chassis" (U1300L Ex-BW Amby) has been an exercise in patience. BIG TIME.. It is finally en route to Montreal for an engine overhaul, 6 mo's after I put the deposit down.
Luckily work has kept me uber busy or I would have gone ballistic long ago..
This is a great discussion, and I'm in agreement that a fully customized and overbuilt rig is a great a way to go.
IMHO, if you spend the time and energy to build a rig yourself, you are more likely to find a workable solution when problems arise. I guess I believe that the type of person that...
Strong work. Loving it!
You might want to consider using all of the side lights for "scene" lights. I loved having the scene lights set up on different switches for checking things out at night (camp sight clear?), and general lighting around the rig. They're also pretty handy for tail-gators...
Note the stated GVWR is based on the OEM suspension. The axle, suspension, tire, chassis combo you end up with alter this. I.E.- any upgrades in carrying capacity/stiffening you make will likely increase the theoretical GVWR. The axle is likely your limiting factor.
Well yes and no. We could safely say that your tipping angle is the same if you were in a static roll-over scenario (tilting until it rolls over) if you matched the track width of the DRW setup. All things being equal, the major variable that governs stability in this situation is the height of...
"Stability" in itself is a general term, and to quantify whether or not one configuration is more or less stable than another requires a look at the entire suspension system. So things like track width, spring rates, damping rates, tire stiffness, and the geometry of every "member" needs to...
Chris helped me out with some spacers for mine, made from a single steel billet. No concerns about load capacity given over-designed nature of them, wall thicknesses through the roof, probably weighed ~35lbs each.. They were 3" each side, and also adapted the bolt pattern to match the front axle.
Small world!
I was driving south on the 1 by Big Sur last Thursday and spotted them as well. -Stopped to say hello and take a picture, but I think they were asleep or out hiking.
Cheers guys! Glad the concept is living on. :victory:
Agreed that the head room was a drawback to my rig, I have many memories of standing by the stove cooking with my head angled at 45deg. Your experience may vary depending on how tall/short you are. The girlfriend thought it was fine...
Enjoy your trip! We'll be embarking on a similar adventure next year and I'm eager to read up on your experiences.
I also like the encouragement from others not to worry too much about it. After all, I watched crowds overtake fire engines and paddi-wagons this week in the Mission so it's all...
Cheers and thanks for the compliments!

The couch was from one of main RV furniture suppliers, can't remember which one off the top of my head. I'll see if I can dig it up, and it might be in...
