I didn't think about that. Good call.

    '99 4 runner suspension build

Nicely Done. Also look at Tundra front axle shafts. Stock, they are longer. That might be a better solution than what you've got going on there. Otherwise, excellent welding!

Show us your Toyota 4runner, tacoma or truck.

The new scout car. 2015-11-09_09-21-36 by Max Thomason, on Flickr Originally I wanted another rover, but couldn't find one that wasn't expensive and ragged out. This was a family friends extra vehicle. His 3 daughters drove it through their respective times in high school. The base of the...

Hi-Lift + Lift Mate to fix a flat tire?

I guess. I've lifted up the chassis by my rock sliders or bumpers with my bottle jack. No problem. For a flat, that is most likely on road. The bottle jack is so much easier and safer. For off road, I've always gotten the vehicle to a safe spot before screwing around with a tire. Once again...

Hi-Lift + Lift Mate to fix a flat tire?

Get a hydraulic Bottle jack. Tons more safer, easier to store, and they just work. Less screwing around with jack stands and whatnot.

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

Meh. My rope sat outside on the drum for 10 years. No issues. Recently used it to drag my fat truck after I high centered the rear axle. Just dragged the axle through crap. Actually a pretty tough pull. The biggest issue with my rope is its stupid owner tearing it up.

Drivetrain damage: Tire Size VS. Tire Weight ??

Complicated question with too many variables. Long story short, its all about stress fatigue. On the front axle, for the most part, its truly rotational ("full float" style axle). In the rear, you'll have axial and lateral forces to deal with. Either way, your larger tires will reduce the life...

    Tire warranty coverage?

Its a crap shoot, really. I've had to warranty one tire after my winch cable wrapped around it at 50mph (btw don't do this as this sucks significantly). I always get the tire warranty because it seems like when I don't it all goes to crap. However it might just be my luck. Also depends on how...

4x4 ranger Longtravel I've been working on

Dude that is awesome. I love long travel suspension. How much up and down travel do you have? There is a kit to add long travel suspension to the front of 4 runners (picking one up tomorrow). I'm holding back just because I don't need it...but it would be super awesome cool. Also post pics of...

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

Agreed. HUGE safety and convenience increase. When you are SOL trying to un-SOL yourself, increasing safety factors and making life easier is what you want. When winching, you want things to go smoothly and safely because when it goes sideways, it goes REALLY sideways. Also agree with taking...

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

Meh. I've had synthetic on my M12k since 2002. No issues. Doubt it was ever rated for it. Works fine. The drum just doesn't get hot...which is awesome.

    Overland Journal testing Sand Mats/Ladders

I like the test where the guy made tracks out of a milk crate. Considering I *might* be in a sandy situation next year, that is what I'll probably use. Simply because it'll be near 0 cost and then afterwards I can toss em. However if I ever end up living in the dunes, the Matrax will be on my...

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

I put synthetic on my M12k. I didn't notice any weight difference or how it drove. However it was SIGNIFICANTLY easier to handle vs. the stupid cable. Yes these winches are slower than an 8274. But I have literally picked up a Discovery that fell off the trail...and put it back on the trail...

    SEMA 2015: Official Thread

On the flipside, a few years ago, someone made a facebook account that was like, "SEMA Clown Car" or something. THAT is what I'm waiting for. Basically it was photos of all the hack work done. You know, giant 4x4 trucks with single sheer shock bolts and no front driveshafts. That kinda thing.

Block heaters? Battery warmers? Oil pan heaters?

Look at getting just a generic engine blanket. And by blanket, I mean an electrically heated one, not like, a blanket-blanket. Google yields the power blanket. Seems like a good solution. Seems to work pretty good for general use. Also after you crank it up, you can put your transmission in...

The cost of Land Rover Defenders

Its gotta be 25 years old or older with COMPLETE matching numbers. No more old farm trucks with swapped TDIs in them. 110 5 doors are the only configurations that people are making money on. 90s seem to break even and everyone loses money on series trucks. Really, you gotta get them from...

    Halloween on The Rubicon

Nice! Also cool you basically did run it in a day! I hear people going out there for days. Guess its more of a way of dragging out the awesomeness vs. terrain difficulty. Then again a built runner of 37s does help...

    My 1991 LR Defender 90 200Tdi Pick Up.....build.

Looks like a decent truck. Install a Roof Top tent right over the bed. That way you can have it, but it isn't up high. This is a great, lightweight, truck.

    Street tires for 2008 L322

I say go Michelin for street tires. Every vehicle I've ever known with Michelins on them rode very well and the tires performed very well.
