    2017 LR Discovery details

I'd like to wheel one, see whats up. People always vastly underestimate stock vehicles. I bet it'll friggen go.

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

I'd prefer a rear diff locker if I could get it. However I have a feeling that I will have to do without, or later on get with ARBs. The rear detroit in my 109 is pretty much the best thing ever, so naturally I'd gravitate towards it. In technical rocks it would make all of the difference...

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

Claims front end damage. AKA someone here in ATL was on their phone and not paying attention. I've dealt with salvage rebuilders. While they usually end up putting together a good car, they think their price commands what they've got in it. Probably going to wait and find one that already...

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

Lulz they want $10,950 for a 07 SE V8 with 112k on the clock...and a "rebuild" title (AKA salvage). Half of me wants to hit them up and see if I can get it for cheap.

    Snorkel Prefilter

Those are very popular for construction equipment, which can and will see a lot of dust. That is the route I would go.

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

I just found an 06 SE V8 with the rear locker...however they want a bunch of money and it has a salvage title. If I was for sure gonna wheel the crap out of it for 10 years, I'd consider it.

LR4 Battery Charging Profile... Measured with IID... really this bad?

With minor load changes, yes. But under significant load, the voltage would change. Hence why I recommended adding on a huge load. Either way, sounds like he needed a new alternator. So either way, problem solved.

Preventing a deep dish of gumbo.... Neverwet on my new wheels

This is what I use: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/xtr-xtc06/overview/ Makes cleaning up A LOT easier. Spray all over the wheels, wheel well, under the sills, etc. I try to avoid mud, but I live in the southeast, so it is unpossible. Now I just spray this all over the underside of the...

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

Word has it that to install a factory diff, you gotta get new ECUs and full vehicle wiring harness. I'd say, around $5k or so. ARB is probably $2K installed (assuming you drop it off at a shop and ask them to install) for the rear only. Just the locker is $1k.

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

We complain about the new trucks everytime they come out. Back in 1999 when the D2 came out with no center diff lock, it was the end of the world. When the LR3 came out with independent suspension, it was the end of the world. When The LR4s switched to a single speed transfer case with two speed...

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

The question pops up and I've been wondering myself. How does one screen to find the rear locking diff on vehicles on the internet? There are many way to tell in person (aka, get up under there and look), but it is difficult to look at every truck 100s of miles away, or ask a salesman to go...

LR4 Battery Charging Profile... Measured with IID... really this bad?

Try something. Crank her up, then turn on ALL OF THE ELECTRICS. Effing lights. Hazard. Leave the doors open music. Seat heaters. Charge all of the cellphones and tablets. If you have a fridge freezer or anything else that can run off of 12v, plug er in and load it up. If you have aux...

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

LR has lost out to the cheap Asian truck market. Also military and government contracts suck. Fight tooth and nail for barely any margin. Much more $$$ in selling expensive, high margin luxury SUVs. Better to sell one vehicle at $130k than 5 at $15k. Less work, more margin. More money. I'd...

    Preferred Fuel type

Gasoline. Diesel only for a small vehicle that spends all of its time on the highway or a tow rig. Otherwise, just driving around in a diesel makes no sense. Older diesels aren't comfortable, and the newer ones can be a nightmare if they aren't run hot. Stop and go driving is the absolute worst...

What is most important to you when buying Recovery Board Kits?

I guess. But with string, if you start to have a problem, it'll just break.

    Airing down Michelin LTX's

I air down my 31x10.50x15s on my 4runner down to like, 15ish. I mainly do it so it doesn't beat the crap out of me. Traction off road typically sucks. They clog up super quickly with mud and anything else that'll fit in those tire grooves. Recently I did air down to 10 psi for loose sand...

What is most important to you when buying Recovery Board Kits?

Side note: Whatever you get, tie a piece of string to them and the other end, to the back of your rig. So when you recover, your vehicle pulls the mats out for you (vs. digging around, trying to get them). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03CEBphWlSI Skip to 2:20 for demonstration on the...

Who's running LED headlights in the Northeast?

Running LED lights on my old rover (the housings and everything look exactly the same as the truck lites...just different connector). It never really got cold around here, but their performance at night was amazing. Especially on back roads. I could actually see, which was extremely nice. A...

    on-board air

I've got a 1 gallon tank. With 31x10.50x15 tires, its pretty useless by itself. I've played around with it and it'll barely raise the the PSI for 15 to 20 on one tire. So the compressor runs constantly. Its more like a buffer than anything else. I wouldn't waste your time with anything less than...

The hunt for an Overland build.

Yes. Defendersource is the best place to go. For US, 25 years or older. Original Frame, Engine, transmission, and axles. That said, there is a Dutch guy who seems pretty good at "building" up trucks before importing them. So you get a legal truck, that has had all of the rust taken care of...
