2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

That's true! And if it was available... I'd use it. Hauling heavy long distance (over 20k lbs) I could see this being more essential. Keeping within the gasser limits (under 20k lbs) I haven't found it an obstacle. Obviously driving within the limits of the truck and weight. We've been...

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

Stock springs are 40-50% thicker than the Deaver Leafs. Stock is 3-4 Leaf Springs. Deaver are 8+ leaf springs. It's a massive difference! You get a progressive spring pack that flexes (has wheel travel). Eliminating the block will help avoid axle wrap (gives the leaf springs more leverage...

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

Nope. I don't think it's necessary... shifting/gearing down typically holds speed well enough with occasional braking. Haven't had any issues with the brakes fading... they are massive! Have you needed additional braking?

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

Skip the F150... Keep the Tacoma for fun and buy a real HD truck (like the Super Duty). Then you have the best of both worlds. F150 is basically a big truck that doesn't do big truck stuff.

F-350 Configuration for Truck Camper Build (NorthStar 850SC)

Couple thoughts... Pass on dual alternators (not needed) added complexity. Same with dual batteries (save engine bay room and weight). Don't think the snow plow package or HD spring package will be enjoyable. Extremely rough ride. You'll want to upgrade suspension either way... 4.30 Axle...

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

The original tuning was perfect when loaded with the adjusters turned up 2 clicks. We never adjusted them up over 2 clicks. When we were unloaded with the adjusters turned to zero the valving was a bit firm. We wanted to reduce the valving to allow for a more compliant ride unloaded. The...

Potential downsize. Tundra vs Ram 1500

Tundra is hard to beat for the track record and reliability. Solid drivetrain components. 5.7L has been in production since 2007. Either truck will need modifications for carrying a truck camper load. The FWC is the biggest/heaviest camper I'd consider on either platform (with proper...

Potential downsize. Tundra vs Ram 1500

Tundra GVWR is due to classification and limited with stock passenger tires. The combined GAWR is significantly higher. GAWR takes into account the brakes and carrying capacity. My experience has been keeping within the axle ratings (front/rear) with proper load distribution works well...

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

After less than 2 years and 21k miles the front passenger Fox 2.5” DCS shocks was seeping a bit of oil. We were planning to revalve all four shocks and decided to rebuild them at the same time. The shocks were purchased through AccutuneOffroad.com. They provide custom shock valving for your...

Potential downsize. Tundra vs Ram 1500

We did the FWC Hawk with 2016 Tundra 5.7L combo. Icon Shocks (tuned), Deaver Springs (designed for 3" lift @ 2k lb load), ko2 stock size, rock warrior (forged alloy wheels with flakelocks removed). It was a fantastic combination! Drove really well! Could hit rough roads at high speeds fully...

    2019 F350 6.2L 4WD build thread; HPI flatbed, ATO AterraXL composite camper, Carli/King, 37s, 4.88s, etc

My buddy was running the Wildpeak A/T3W. Another new tire to consider is the Baja Boss AT - 3 ply sidewall - 3 peak Snowflake

    2019 F350 6.2L 4WD build thread; HPI flatbed, ATO AterraXL composite camper, Carli/King, 37s, 4.88s, etc

My buddy has the Falken Wildpeak tires on his TRD Pro 4runner. They are dismal at best. Off road they had extremely low lateral traction (even aired down). He couldn't hold a line; the entire truck would slide sideways. When trying to climb an obstacle it wouldn't... just slip off or...

Well thought out build! Will be fun to see where it takes you... :)

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

Correct. Our rear shocks have the adjusters on top. Plenty of hand space. But can't see. Done by feel. Not real convenient. But we only adjust with the camper removed (not often). If the adjusters do get moved to the bottom it would help but still awkward. Looks like the market is...

    New Bronco

True. They are looking at 2023 or later. However, I doubt any dealer will be able to deliver in 2022 if ordered today. It's not an expedient process. Might be for the best... hopefully the bugs get worked out.

Full Size - Small Diesels: why so unpopular?

It's easy to focus on fuel economy numbers. But that isn't the actual cost! You need to run all the numbers! Purchase cost, depreciation, finance cost, maintenance, repair, license, registration, insurance... Owning a paid for vehicle with lower MPG is much less expensive overall. Gas just...

    New Bronco

Let's face it... the New Ford Bronco release has been filled with many challenges. Even the online configurator tool is quirky and the feature/options availability is frustrating depending on model. See below for the lowest cost Ford Dealer (below MSRP) for ordering the Bronco and how I'd build...

Removing electric jacks for off road?

We converted the camper basement into storage and carry our jacks with us. It's great being able to drop the camper while on a trip. Plus, no issues off road. We remove the camper while at our home base so the jacks get a fair amount of use. Love being able to fairly easily load/unload the...

Seeking input on newer Ford F350's with the 6.2L or 7.3L Gas engines.

Keep in mind the 2017+ 6.2L was tuned to improve the low RPM torque and overall power. It likes to run at low revs even with the 3k lb camper. When pulling our 14k dump trailer it will bump the RPM up. It is a workhorse. More power is always nice but this engine gets the job done and never a...

Why I Bought a Ford F250 Tremor for a Four Wheel Campers Hawk UTE

12k lb winch works fine for us. Hasn't failed us yet. And we use our truck and winch. But we carry 80ft extension rope and multiple snatch blocks. Much more flexibility for recovery than a mondo winch. Plus, way less weight and money. Although... I guess if you spent more cash in your...
