Also keep in mind P38 likes a great working battery (well, most trucks do, but especially P38s, LR3s... all those electronic gadgetries :)). Similar to my 04 DII, electrical gremlins starts to show up with a weak battery.

My wife and I used to own a 98 Forester when it was first introduced here in the USA; many years of reliability and great family hauler/camping vehicle to the snow/mountains with better mpg (vs our LR) and AWD.
Was going to trade it in for 2nd Gen...
It could - swap out one of the tires from the rear equal and same thread to front if poss, and see if you still get the binding.
Also have you had a chance to drain the fluid from the Borg Warner (BW) transfer gearbox; check out the color, does it smell burnt and any metal particles?
