    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

I considered lithium, but my buddies dad who builds some off road trailers had too many stories of customers who vibrated their lithium batteries to death on washboard roads. Lithium may have gotten better and maybe that’s not a huge problem now days, but too expensive for me to risk that.

Battery placement.... So i’ve got two 6v agm batteries on the way for my “house” set-up, but i can’t decide where to place them. I wanted to put them on the frame rails but because of the mounts i made for the flatbed, there isn’t space. There is space inside the frames but the only way to get...

Welp didn’t make quite as much progress as we hoped, but things are moving. We are new to tig welding, so it’s definitely taking a bit longer than our normal mig welding routine. First we finished up the mounting brackets for the rack. The steel is just a spacer for some abs plastic that will...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

Ready to make some real progress. The true camper build is on hold, but excited to have a cool summer set-up going soon. Drew these up last night and ordered aluminum for the storage box today. This set-up will allow the truck to be extremely versatile for work and play. I can remove it...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

Quick update: this project is taking longer to get moving as these things usually do. Found a good deal on a used James Baroud rtt, so i figured we’d make a quick temporary camp set-up so we can get this truck out this summer, while we slowly build the actual camper. So yesterday we welded up...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

That was something i wanted to include, but a bigger priority to me was keeping the overall height when closed as low as possible. We live up in the mountains at about 5500 ft, on very windy roads, our sprinter was 9 ft tall, and even with custom valved fox suspension, it kind of sucks driving...

Door location has more to do with interior plans. Originally had it more forward, but it would have interferes with what we are planning on the inside.

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

Well, winter, work, and home ownership really slowed things down, but finally trying to get moving on this again. Finally drew up what I WANT the camper to look like, now to figure out how to make it a reality. All the extra shapes and curves will make this a bit more difficult to build, but...

Got some little 3/4” indicators lights in for the side of the flatbed today. 3 amber and 1 red for each side. Hoping some of you that are better with electrical than I (it’s definitely my weak point) can give me some tips for the best way to do this. I want the 3 amber ones to be on whenever the...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

Quick late night update while I’ve got a chance. Been a busy week for us, so not as much progress as I’d hoped. We had to move our shop about an hour away, and we finally took ownership of our new house after a two month long escrow. Ain’t it cute. Anyways got a little bit of truck stuff done...

Far from done, but she’s road worthy again. Rather pleased with how this came out being my first time ever building something like this. Think it looks pretty good. Really excited to see it after we get some tool boxes made. Unfortunately i have to move my shop this week, so not sure how...

    66mpg, 14" Ground Clearance, 3.2s 0-60mph, 1,800lb Payload, 826ft/lb torque, true 4x4, 66mpg.......

Ugh, I cant wait till the day someone makes a good electric pick-up truck with an 8 ft bed. I do custom furniture work for a living, so a pick-up is my daily driver obviously. I would love to go electric for that. Its insane it doesnt exist. I know some many guys that work for construction...

I've definitely considered braking power. The front brakes were actually upgraded on the dana 60 that I bought, which was a nice start. I know there is a company that makes a conversion to put disc on the rear, which is definitely on my to do list before finishing off the camper. Shocks...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

That’s interesting. Seems like it wouldn’t be that hard to create some kind of manual lock for the mounts. Maybe that’s something I’ll think about. Unfortunately it feels like spring rate is something I’m just gonna have to play around with and see what happens.

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

That’s the big question isn’t it. Seems hard to find any info in spring rates. From what I’ve found i thought somewhere in the 450lb range would be good for my build. But only time will tell.

Depends what you mean by brick on wheels. After the reverse shackle and new steering box the truck feels pretty good for being 20 something ft long truck with a 4" lift and big 35's on it. I still need to install my track bar. I was told to let me leaf springs break in before installing it...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

Made a little progress on the flatbed this weekend. Taking a little longer than I hoped, but I guess that's usually how these things go. Once I got the bed off I noticed there was a bit more surface rust showing its face than i would have liked so I went ahead and spent the good portion of a...

Anyone here using an XP Campers tray/flatbed?

The xp stuff is nice, but man is it crazy expensive. If you have a little bit of design knowledge, and know a good welder you could work with, you could get it done for half the price. I'm currently working on a flatbed for myself, and sure aluminum isnt cheap, but I think I paid around $1400...

Thanks guys. Kind of started the flatbed build today, but already making tons of changes to my original plan. Sometimes no matter how much you plan, or you draw things up, once you have the actual materials on hand and start lining things up, it doesnt work out exactly as you thought. Oh...

    OBS F250/F350 Flatbed camper build

Yea for me it was a couple things. First, I missed having 4x4, and good luck finding any 4x4 van for under $30k these days. I guess I could have gone ujoint kit and done it myself, and it wouldnt have been much more work that the axle swap I did, but I'd still probably end up spending about...
