    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

I drove the bus to work today for the first time! It ran fine, and the smoking has gone way down, especially once it warms up. This makes me very happy. No freeway yet, I want to check a few things before any high-speed action.

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

Thanks Mike, unfortunately I have a project to build in the shop, so it has to go back out in the rain! It'll be sheltered again once my project is done though. I got the insurance cards printed out today, so I might even drive it to work soon!

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

I got the tail lights + brake lights working, but the turn signals still dont function. I also put my old Unimog 404 Radio Truck desk in it, and it fits nicely. It also is spending some time in my newly cleaned out shop, out of the rain! This is the first time it's been inside a building in...

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

Thanks! So I finished mounting the new seat. I found a good one from a Ford Ecoline van at U-pull-it for $30, and I built a hinged base out of some steel I had around. It's really comfortable, and even slides backwards OR forwards! I also painted the bumper and mounted the lights...

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

I finished mounting the drivers seat today, and reinstalled the rear bumper after priming and painting it. The turn signals have stopped working, so I need to troubleshoot those. Once I check the diff fluid and tranny fluid, it'll be good to go!

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

Ok, I rebuilt the Slave clutch cylinder with OEM mercedes parts, and re-installed it. The clutch now functions fairly well, although I think some bleeding/adjustment wouldn't hurt. I can at least get in to all the gears! I drove it around the block a few times, and I'm going to add some oil...

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

Thanks Mike! A little update. It's been raining a ton, but I have a title, plates, registration and insurance for it now, and I've pulled the clutch slave cylinder and will be rebuilding it shortly. The cylinder wall is smooth, so I think a new seal and some cleaning might bring it back to...

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

Took the Bus to the DMV via Trailer recently and got Plates and a Title! Just have to fix the clutch (leaking slave) and it'll be good to 'shake down.' Too bad it's so flippin' cold outside. Gotta free up the shop (FJ40 getting a new engine) so I can work on it inside. I measured, and with the...

I cleaned most of the interior of the pop-top camper today. It's in good shape, the canvas is good and without tears. I'm really excited to get it set on top of the bus, but it'll be a while. Here are some pics: Thanks!

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

I just picked up a camper pop-top for the bus! It's like this one: I'll be grafting it to the top of the bus at some point for a neat second story! It'll give me standing room in the bus too!

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

I spent some time under the bus this weekend trying to repair the clutch system. I figured out all the lines and tried to bleed the system, but it still doesnt work. I suspect one of the cylinders has a leak. Anyone know if these buses share clutch cylinders with any normal Mercedes vehicle?

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

I sanded and primed the hood, and tried to pound out a couple dents. They are better, but not perfect... I might bondo them a bit. I also started sanding the nose of the bus a bit, and it'll get primed soon.

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

More progress today! I tacked the bumper on, as well as the light tabs and tow hooks. (Left over from a Unimog 404 Bed) I wired in the front and rear lights, and they all work, amazingly. Next I will pull off the bumper and fully weld it, as well as attach a receiver mount, and paint it. At...

    New Toy: 1972 Mercedes 0 309 Omnibus

That's good to hear! I'm hoping once I get this thing hot and womp on it a bit it'll clear out the injectors and whatever gunk is hibernating in the engine from sitting for 6 years. This morning I sanded and primed the grill and shined the star. I sanded the nose of the bus a bit. Eventually...

Thanks Hakan, you are welcome to come by any time you like! Feel free to call me on my cell: 503-999-6539. The Webasto is in unknown condition. I might try to play with it later once a few other things are done, but it might no thave fuel/power to it anymore... I got a new oil filter from Jim...

That's awesome! I wish we still had the glass, but you take what you can find with these. For parts, you can try Brax in Idaho or Jim Ince at Eurotruck.

Soldered Deans plugs to the LED strip lights I'll be using inside the bus. I have a 12v LED dimmer coming, and I'll run it all to a Blue Sea or Painless fuse box off the batteries. They are plenty bright, but hard to see it in the picture:
