I took the trailer jack off the quicksilver tongue and mounted it on the new frame. Take a look at the clearance the Timbren axle provides.

I cut the tongue, axle, and axle mounts off the Quicksilver trailer. I then moved the box on the new frame to see fitment. I also mounted the tires to see how it will look finished.

I put on the Timbren suspension. I had to make sure I moved one of the cross members to line up with the suspension. I later will put in an axle bar to tie in the suspension. I think I will need to do this because of the spacers.

I got tired of waiting on the aluminum frame. I'm not sure if they will ever get it done so I decided to go another direction. I ordered a 5 by 8 trailer from northern tool, and decided to adapt it to my design. The trailer came in two boxes and on a big semi. It is made out of 11 gauge...

Let me know how it works out. My sidewalls are real stiff so I'm worried I may not be able to air down enough without breaking the bead.

Yeah I wonder how low I can run the tire pressure on the trailer. The tires will be quite over sized for this size and weight trailer. I'm just waiting on the frame and then things should come together rather quickly.

Good point about the air in tires. I can play with the pressure to keep the trailer from bouncing around. I went with the 2000 lbs system as a little over kill. I think each side is rated at 1000 lbs. This is why I feel ok about the adapters. My first trip will be about 520 miles and I was...

Here are some more pics of the finished job. I love how the nut has a locking tab behind the nut that is not a cotter pin. This is way easier to install. I don't know if you can see the bend over tab behind the nut but I tried to take a picture. The other pics are of the completed hub...

I spent the day putting together the hubs and spindles. I cleaned up the spindles and then ran some grease into the spindle to clean out any debri that may have lodged into the grease hole. I used a bearing packer I found at a local auto parts store. It is very slick and packed the bearings...

I finally received the Timbren suspension in the mail. I ordered it from etrailer.com and they made a mistake and sent the wrong hubs. They sent 3500 lbs hubs and I needed the 2000 lbs hubs. Etrailer contacted Timbren and they shipped out the correct hubs right away. Timbren makes a great...

Anything we can do to keep the older generation outdoors helps them hang around longer. The day my grandpa decided to stop camping he passed away.

So cool! I love how your tires match. Do you carry a spare for the trailer or rely on one spare for all? I'm after looking at some trucks try an offroad with the heavier trailers the light weight aluminum is the way to go.

Good point. I always wondered why they switched the support system. I'm hoping the larger frame and tires might help? I'll have to do some testing and let you know. Worse case I switch my trailer to the new support. I bet my frame fabricator can make something quick for me.

Good point. Right now there are stabilizer jacks on that side. I was planing on still using the jacks with extensions. I'm hoping this will help with the stabilization.

It will be on the passenger side. I have to be careful where I place the tires. I can't be to far forward or I will be in the way of the door, and I can't be to far back or the tires will be in the way of the support on the other side. If I measured right then there should just fit at the...

I ordered the Timbren suspension from etrailer. I ordered the 2000 lbs system. It was $50 cheaper than ordering it direct from Timbren, and they shipped it free!! I got the 5 by 4.5 bolt pattern and will need spacers to clear the frame...

Well I've been a little busy today. I removed the fenders and now I have to remove the aluminum fender supports. I also removed the lights, wiring, and have a few holes to patch.

Thanks. I thought about just lifting the current axle but I think it would be to wide for some of the off road travel I do. I'm sorry but I do not understand your question about the door and bed?

Here is a rough sketch of the aluminum frame being built. I had him make it an extra 18 inches so I could make a custom slide out kitchen and storage box. I'm thinking I could store a LP tank and on demand hot water heater inside. This will take up half of the space so the rest would be a...

I found five 2007 stock wheels on craigslist last week. I bought another two on ebay and went down to discount tire and put 285/70/17 BFG KM2's on all. Wow that hurt. I'm running out of money fast. I saved a long time for this project so hopefully my money will last. Here is a pic of the...
