    Binky, the '92 7.3l 4x4 Econoline

Well, thanks to grampswrx too!? Send me what you have on the tire mount. I was wanting to do just that, so why reinvent when I can copy your's ? So jealous. I spent to much time repairing my race car transmission. That's such a great river/ canyon! Nice weekend to January camp!

A big thanks to shenrie! He spotted this Alumines tire rack on CL and let me know about it. I still need to order the hinge bolt and a 8 on 170 flange. Looking forward to camping season!

DIY Third Gen Ford Van 4x4 Conversion Questions

Maintenance, weight, complexity, mileage. Every one seems 'unique'... Weld-Tec has some cool lifts for the 2wd front end and most diffs are 'open' anyway, so even w/ 4wd, you still really only have 2 wheels being driven. A locking or limited-slip gives you 2wd, just from the same axle. A true...

DIY Third Gen Ford Van 4x4 Conversion Questions

The pop top on my extended 92 Econoline came from a 78 Dodge D200 so anything is possible! If I were to build another, I'd probably not go 4WD. Just a lift and a diff. Good Luck and have fun! John

    Binky, the '92 7.3l 4x4 Econoline

Nothing important, flares are on and I had some reproduction stickers made for the Chef's top. I replaced the original headlamps with some Depo brand units from Amazon. Big improvement.

    Binky, the '92 7.3l 4x4 Econoline

A quick bit of update! I've 'moved' to Bend this summer and stayed in Binky for the first few weeks. Then I bought a house. : ) Currently working back and forth between towns... My first trips on the 285 tires were a bit rough. Tough to pull hills at a reasonable speed with those big tires...

Some more done. I finished the floor and put some of the old corrugated plastic wall covers back in place. Then I built a table out of the old laptop tower that came with the van. Made some adjustments to the roof and white lithium grease for the lift tracks. Now it opens and closes easily! I'm...

    Binky, the '92 7.3l 4x4 Econoline

Another update, Spent all day yesterday cutting out and smoothing foam. 3 garbage bags of the stuff, but now the walls will be nice and smooth. I plugged the dozens of holes and laid down some soft foam pad for insulation and OSB over that. Tomorrow I'll lay carpet and glue down the 'diamond...

    Binky, the '92 7.3l 4x4 Econoline

I spent last Sunday and today installing the Chef's Combi-Wagon top on Binky. It still needs a lot of finish work, but it works! It still sits about 1/2" high because I need new latches, and I still need to install the gasket, but it's pretty close. I have another week to get it finished as I...

    E350 Interior noise and steering?

My 7.3 IDI is plenty noisy, but I found the tires to be my primary noise culprit. Going from the Cooper M/Ts to the Toyo A/Ts cut my noise in half. Your 4" exhaust may not be helping either if the noise from all the local pickups is any indicator... I also have a pretty worn-out steering box...

    Found: Adventure van in Oakland

Glad to hear the damage wasn't so bad! Satisfying to hear he lost his tools... You have inspired me to purchase some additional security! How did they get in? I think a beefy lock system for the back doors is in order! John

4” exhaust for 1995 e350 with Cummins swap

Band clamps work well too and still make it easy to dismantle. Have the shop flare the female end as deep as they can (>4" if possible) so each section has plenty of adjustability and still have a strong union.

Flipping Detroit Truetrac gears? Rear in the front!? Anybody done this on something as big and heavy as a E350/D60???

So, I have a Quaife on my FWD Saab (Frank) and love it! It's the same basic design that the true-trac uses. I would do the true-trac front and rear if I could afford it. Odds are, if I need the extra traction, it's for snow and mud and I don't want a locker for that. In 15 years of driving...

Cummins 2.8 Diesel swap in a Astro AWD??

Astros are amazing little vans, we love ours! Around here the 16" AWD vans bring $6k+, more if they are lifted, campered, etc. I just had the 4L60E rebuilt on my Astro, so maybe when the 260K mile 4.3 finally gives up, I'll find a 2.8 Duramax... John
