"TrailTop" modular trailer topper building components

What a great thread, even though we don't have a trailer (we're in the ambulance conversion crowd). But I found it while looking for experiences with the Behr Deckover paint. I see your use of the Olympia Rescue It, and it's impressive. That looks like the product we're looking for. Are you...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks, Patoz. I signed up online, as the dealer didn't have a clue. Reading the thread you linked, that seems like a common issue. :-) Now, I just wait for up to three weeks for them to process it. No worries or hurry here...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

I think that was the angle of the person "in the back" but, the lady who tried to help me seemed really sincere. She was in the service area. The part's guy was useless... he didn't even offer to try, instead suggesting that I go to service. The service lady poked around in her computer for a...

    Ambulance as TV - a Newbie's search

Geoff your Mercedes comment made me laugh out loud... thanks. Your comments about the 8.3 are reassuring, too. I read a few complaints about thrown rods or other things, but not so many that it steered me away from it. Ron, again remember I'm new to this. We've had ours all of two weeks...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Well... I got an F. Freightliner was no help in getting that number, today. They were very nice, but the parts and service people didn't know what it meant to get me DTNAconnect access. They went and talked to someone in the back, who said "yes, we can do that when you bring the truck in."...

    Ambulance as TV - a Newbie's search

Hi Ron, I'm new to this, but also (like you) did a bunch of reading and looking before purchasing ours. We're not towing with it, but I will put a receiver on it and I have no doubt ours would pull a trailer nicely. My biggest concern would be the overhang and length, on dirt roads. But as...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Excellent info, as always - even with the drool. Thanks, we did well I think. But you've got a beastly rig and ours aspires to look more like yours. I can't help with the engine or tranny programming, but there are cruise control options you can add for under $200. As far as the locker goes...

So, I'm still learning about this rig. I drove 2400+ miles and didn't know the driver's seat had adjustable lumbar support (one of my favorite things!) until I took the seat out to replace the bottom seat foam. The knob is underneath the right side armrest. Surprise!

    I want your opinion...

Lots of these commercially available ones seem to be made from "Baltic birch" ply. It's a void free plywood, which means (in theory) when you cut it there won't be any gaps or voids visible on the cut edge. It lets you radius the edge with a router bit, or sandpaper, and it looks pretty good...

Great suggestions, thanks! If I burn through the two Incredible Whizzy Wheels I just received, I'll definitely look at these options. I sure hope I don't need 4 of any version of them!

Freightliner FL60 wheel and tire recommendations

Thanks, Oz. You've provided a ton of helpful information. I've done a lot of searching myself, but you've posted helpful things that have me going... "damn, where does he find this stuff?"

Freightliner FL60 wheel and tire recommendations

I'd love to see pics, thanks! I just looked through your thread and it looks like the pics there still have the "small" tires on them. :-) This will primarily be on paved roads (90%) with some Arizona dirt roads thrown in. We don't plan on doing beach visits or real "off road" stuff, so I...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks Rlrenz, I did read your thread and the post about that Onan. That was a nice, demo/expo unused unit, right? As far as our power, and the use we'll be putting this rig to (or, for the grammarians, the use to which we'll be putting this rig...), we may not need a generator. We'll be on...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

That is mighty kind of you, sir! Thanks. And, you're right, the more I think about it the more reasons we don't want that beast. I'd keep it, but we already have a propane back-up generator and a transfer switch installed at home. By the way, to others for whom it might be the perfect gen...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Well, definitely that! And weight/space, too. I'm not actually sure we need a generator at all, for our uses. The only reason we'd need it is for AC when we don't have shore power or aren't running the engine. I'd love to free up that space. And get rid of 800 pounds of iron. And, as you...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Fixing the driver's seat First, thanks Patoz! The passenger seat was in good shape, but the Bostrom T910 driver's seat needed a new hydraulic dampener (shock) and seat bottom foam. I replaced both, last night. The shock's pretty straightforward - just two bolts. The seat foam, though, was a...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Hey Ozrockrat, You've currently got a 4.33 rear end, right? Are you going to change that or is it working okay? I'm asking in advance of our tire size change. We're wondering what to expect, and plan for, once we get those on. Thanks and it was great to meet your family at the Expo! Ross

Well, the Expo gave us lots of great ideas and it was nice to see Ozrockrat and some other very-helpful forum members there. The downside of the Expo is that it gave us lots of great ideas! So, now, it looks like we're going to have an indoor shower and toilet in our plans. It's good to know...

Freightliner FL60 wheel and tire recommendations

Hi all, I don't think this belongs in our build thread, as it's pretty specific to tires and wheels (which may apply to other searchers). Ozrockrat has some good tire info in his thread, but he's gone way bigger that we plan to. He's given us some suggestions (dump truck front tires, super...
