    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Took about a month, but the NOS Suzuki oil pump finally arrived. So motor is officially buttoned up now. Pump was primed with assembly lube, fresh chain guide adjusted for proper chain tension, and torqued down. Then the pan was glued and fastened. Good to go!

Offroad capability of full size truck

Factory locker(s) is an absolute game changer for full size trucks. Toss some good tires on a truck these days and it can go places it really shouldn't.

Timbren axleless axle bounces around when towing

Yep, if you still have sway you clearly haven't sorted out tongue weight yet.

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

So I FINALLY found something that is (re)useable. :D So far I feel like everything Ive unbolted deserved nothing more than a trip to the dumpster. The front wheel bearings happened to be in great shape, so things were cleaned up, all new seals, repacked with synthetic grease, and reassembled.

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Attention was then directed towards the front axle. Ive sourced a set of 5.12 diffs front and rear, but the front still utilizes the OEM air actuated diff. While the diff itself is relatively reliable, the compressor needed to actuate it is not, and I just assume not deal with it. So the diff...

    DIY Hard-Side Pop-Tops

First and foremost for our use with regards to hardside is uncompromising protection from weather, not safety. Though safety is increased, as is insulation from not only the outside weather but noise. Softside popups have their benefits, but they are not for everyone. If you have ever...

    Lowa Boots A+++

A few months ago I picked up a set of Renegade GTX on sale. They are my every day boots now. Lots of reasons they are so stinking popular. They are FAR from the boot the Baffin/Tibet is, being considerably lighter duty. But they are comfortable, lightweight, and sturdy (enough) I put 16-20k...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Only real hangup was that damn valve spring retainer. To be realistic, thats something that NOBODY needs during head work. Its just my luck I needed one. Everything else is available, especially if you are willing to order from Japan. Sources here in the US simply are not keeping inventory...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Happy Holidays all. I was lucky enough to have a quiet Christmas at the house with just the wife, so some things in the shop got done. :D Im quickly running out of parts to bolt to this engine, so that's a good thing! Still waiting on the OEM oil pump, shipping delays.... so the pan cannot go...

    Stock Shock Replacement f250

Yes, both failures were blown seals. And bottoming is def possible. Both failures were with the stock coils. And there were obvious witness marks of bottoming out the bump stops. Time will tell now that we have the higher load rated coils.

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Quite the saga finding parts, but Im getting there. The machine shop found a single cracked valve spring retainer in their teardown and inspection of the head. Obsolete part, of course. After weeks of coming up dry finding the part I started hunting for a cheap/junk head to source the retainer...

    Stock Shock Replacement f250

Nothing to do with shocks, but a better steering stabilizer is advised for these superduties with larger tires/lift/leveling. We run a single heavy duty bilstein, a considerable improvement over stock.

    Stock Shock Replacement f250

We still are running the KYB Monomax, for the moment. We run heavy, so the heavy duty shock is helpful. Though I have been going through front Monomax shocks. Ive had failures between 15 and 20k miles, twice now. The rears are holding up. If the front set have trouble again, I'm going to push...

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

Read my previous post. Again, its not a heat issue. Though you could split hairs about efficiency all day. ;) In my book the amount of heat you are loosing, and the little amount of heat needed to replace it is so small that adding complexity, cost, and weight of a fancy setup simply isn't...

    Welcome to the 10-year club

Yeah, that's a mentality I'm still trying to sort out. My instinct tells me its typically more money than sense, combined with a "keeping up the joneses" All motivating the "custom builds" that are often little more than a bolt-on affair. Social media sure the heck doesn't help any.
