New Old Perfect Expedition Camper (NOPEC) - Transitioning a 1995 Kodiak Truck Camper Into A Newer Version

As winter starts to gently settle in around these parts, I have plans to do a bunch of renos to my camper which I "built" just before COVID. While thumbing through some photos to remind myself of what I had done, it occurred to me that others might be interested in the successes and failures...

    8' camper, 6.5' truck bed?

A few thoughts to further muddy the soup. First, very sorry about the loss of your wife. Many manufacturers out there that make both smaller and large slide in campers and to me, it seems that most of the smaller campers are designed to take advantage of very the popular short box...

    2001 Lance 815

Take a good look at your back door. On my 90's Kodiak rebuild, I had the same issue. However, there is a flange which encompasses the door, held on with Phillips screws. When removed, it just gave me enough clearance to remove the old 3 way fridge. I can't image that the original build saw...

Great Expośe on the Quality of Camper Trailers and RV’s Today

Yup again, and with basic skills and a friend or two with a few more, it is amazing what you can create that is both excellent and your own, even from the old stuff!!

Pisew Fall on the Grass River in Northern Manitoba during a portage while paddling the length of the river. You are right, we didn't consider running it, no, not for even a microsecond.........

    Idacamper Custom Flatbed

I would agree with Trackhead on the build. It is just great and has been really inspiring. But, one of the best thing to me that came out of this build thread was a simple comment from IdaSHO a long time ago which I always rely on when I am banging away on my own projects. If I remember...

    Abandoned/derelict sites

In BC, a steam donkey is generally known as a stationary steam powered winch which would have in the logging early days, functioned as what is known today as a yarder. It has a generally vertical, silo appearance and comprises of a vertical firebox on which sits the water box and coils, valves...

    Long road to nowhere.

Yup, looking down on Farwell Canyon. At the center of the photo, you can see the top of the dunes and the path that gets you there. I never get tired of doing that road or being in that country!!

Artistic Shots- Well thought out, framed (positioned), artistic shots only please.

Taken a few weeks ago on South Arrow Lake near Fauquier (which is BC's most carefully pronounced ferry crossing ("Folk yeah" is correct, not the other...). When I was lining up the shot, I had a flashback of my X mother-in-law and her sister, but am bigger than dwelling on ancient...

Turning a box truck into a Stealth Boondocking Overlander Dogmobile - (4x4 Conversion?...)

If you are serious about a winch, you might consider a convertible winch in a cradle which fits into a 2 inch receiver. With the appropriate HD wiring, connectors and frame mounted hitch/receivers, it can be easily used on both the front and rear of your vehicle. If you bury your 2WD...

    Fridge only or fridge/freezer?

On our last build, we purpose ordered a non-freezer option in a NovaKool upright. (I realize this is mostly a discussion about the more efficient chest fridges but hopefully some of these thoughts are relevant) We had a couple of reasons for the non-freezer decision. We had the same...

    Ford F550 Cube Truck

Ya, I noticed that as well. Three pictures of the tail light protectors makes one wonder about the inners.... I image a "gut job" on the box would involve a cutting torch, several strong friends and probably a fork lift......

    RuggedFlex Panels?

Like 2.ooohhh I have run these panels for the last decade with nary a complaint. Like others, I do a fair bit of bush crashing and I really like the fact that the panels have virtually no profile above the roof surface, no attachment holes into the top of the camper and that they conform...

A little Paddling and a little Overlanding in the NWT (Part 1 - Paddling....)

I was reading your posts this spring/early summer. Looks like lots of folks were playing the daily "Ferry Lottery" for a while there as the river, the ice and the debris decided what each day was going look like. But I bet it made the trip even more fun! PS: The Muskox are really...
