Good indoor/outdoor 2 sensor thermometer for truck camper?

We have always had good results and longevity with La Crosse Technology units. They are not overly expensive. Keep the "features" to a minimum, use the best batteries you can buy (mostly to stave off frustration..) and always protect the remote sender from moisture. I keep mine sealed in a...

Klahanie Some folks up there mentioned site C as well, especially as it is currently being filled up. (for those who may not know, Site C is a new and somewhat controversial hydro electric dam on the Peace River in northern BC) I don't know the exact jurisdictional relationship between...

PNWY Thanks for posting the video. It was great and I hope a few folks here saw it. Actually, I didn't know about the tests but as you mentioned, hopefully you would be able to recognize at least one of the symptoms but the tests are quick and sure make it easy. Funny about most of the First...

Fishenough The ending was fine, just part of the game. In 68 days, we did not see another recreational paddler. We felt basically that we had the place to ourselves even though we knew there were a few other folks out there somewhere. With Great Slave Lake, there are lots of options on...

    Interior wall/ceiling covering

Inyo man Your timing for using Coroplast is excellent due to the large number of political lawn signs made of it that will be availabe in the coming months. If you are quick and even braver, you can have an endless variety of colors, themes, sizes, etc. all for free! Now, if you survive or...

Hi PNY Thx for the nice comment. Yes, we have a blog that is going to be receiving considerable attention from us once the dust clears from our trip. It is called "Paddle Strokes for Old Folks". Funny you mentioned "field research". This trip had considerable aspects of research, all well...

Just back from a 68 day paddling trip in the NWT. We usualy had an entirely different tent surface ever night. The PreCambrian Shield granite "whale backs" seen in the second picture were our favourites, once you found the sweet spot where it is level on the hump. The tent zippers also loved...

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

Using pads something similar to this system, your knees, back and butt will be eternally grateful :)

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

Another couple of items that work really well for us although not specifically under the tent but close, are closed cell pads which we put in the vestibules. Because we are kayak travellers and not backpacking anymore, a bit of extra weight and bulk aren't too big of an issue. We are finding...

CPT (Composite Panel Technologies) Slide In Camper Shell Build, AKA "Yes, Dear, I think this will definitely be my last one...."

rruff I know you know all of this stuff anyway but here are a few thoughts.... It is just my opinion based on nothing particularly scientific and I am probably splitting hairs and of course, there is the question of what is toughness. For me due to past terrain choices, toughness is generally...

Agreed and thanks. I also borrowed a few ideas along that stratedgy from your past work. And, yes, about an 800 lb reduction from my Kodiak but I do miss a lot of what the moulded fiberglas shell had to offer , not the least of which was it's exterior toughness.

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

It is funny how the lingo used to describe things can be slightly different. I have always thought of "Space Blankets" as those very thin mylar sheets with a reflective coating which are folded up very small and are sealed in a plastic bag and are designed pretty much for an emergency, one use...

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

We use both a footprint and a "custom" cut piece of building wrap (Tyvak) under the tent. As ITTOG mention, it is critical to make the tarp slightly less wide than the tent floor, all around. Cheap tarps work just as well. We don't use it under the vestibule. We are mostly worried about...

2022 F350 with a Bison Slide in Camper Build

VerMonsterRV I recently put a flexible SS exhaust pipe through a composite panel, albeit with lower exhaust gas temps from propane. For part of my insulation "sandwich" I used a mounded re-enforced silicone engine turbo flange. They are available in a variety of configurations and diameters...

    Paint suggestions

Tucson A few years ago, I used a one part Coronado brand industrial polyurethane rust paint called "Rust Scat" to do the exterior of a fiberglas truck camper I had redone. It is found in Benjamin Moore stores and the same paint is now called something else, thank goodness. I wanted to have...

ITTOG Thanks. I have had a few of the moulded truck campers. A Bigfoot (8'2") and a couple of Kodiaks (8'3") to be exact. I liked them all for different reasons just that now, I really wanted to get away from the weight and size and with the Bigfoot especially, all the build-ins and "mass...
