    Tire chain retrofit

Yeah, but I wasn't about to add links to each end of the cross bars. Enough bloody knuckles doing just one end. Anyone that has worked on chains knows the pain and struggles! Only real concern is that I now have the icebreakers contacting a bit of side-wall. Ill have to keep an eye on...

    Tire chain retrofit

I'm prepping for a (late) winter trip here in North Idaho. Looking to hit one of our favorite snow shoeing spots, and will likely need chains. While checking things over, it was painfully obvious that one set of chains was beyond saving. then I realized I still have a seldom used set of...

    JCliftonB's Full-Size Overland/Adventure Build

Yeah, I certainly do not envy you and your cab mount job. No fun! As far as the idler goes, its often FAR cheaper to source the correct bearing and swap it out instead of the entire idler. Just takes a bit more time, and hassle to source the correct bearing.

Likely an idler pulley bearing, or simply an old/dry belt.

The core support will definitely have a couple, as the cab is joined to the support via the inner fender support. Certainly not like the old trucks!

Plywood camper fabrication questions (thinking of idaSho)

Sorry for the slow response. The "hinge" you see are simple attachment points I designed and integrated into the camper. I'm prepping the truck and camper this weekend for a winter trip, Ill take some photos of the setup.

    JCliftonB's Full-Size Overland/Adventure Build

Im surprised to see your cab mounts in that kind of shape. My 2011 with a bit more than 140k on it shows zero signs of cab mount issues. And its not like ours lived a babied life before we got it (at 110k or so) It was a service truck from a Canadian mining company, and the underside was...

    JCliftonB's Full-Size Overland/Adventure Build

Im running the dynatrac freespin kit on my 2011 Superduty I feel it is money well spent. I dont anticipating doing bearings on this truck ever again. As far as inspections and parts, the only really picky items on these trucks are steering components. Primarily due to the front suspension...

Who's building the best 3/4 Ton/ 1 Ton Gas Truck these days!

Bone stock brand new… If Gasser, Ford If Diesel, tossup between Chevy or Ram The Chevys are incredibly comfortable and smooth, but if you run heavy Id avoid the IFS and go Dodge.

Plywood camper fabrication questions (thinking of idaSho)

If you have a door just behind the front wall, cabover forces on the cabin will be focussed most on roof and belly of the cabover. Roof will in in tension and belly will be in compression. So as long as the front wall is strong enough to resist those compressive forces (pushing it in) you...

Plywood camper fabrication questions (thinking of idaSho)

Id avoid tube all-together and just use plate. Similar to whats actually in the camper, but without the tub frame. See the one triangular plate? Id add another forming a V, so it ties into two walls/sections of the camper. Then thru-bolt it thru wood framing and with steel plate on the other...

Plywood camper fabrication questions (thinking of idaSho)

Hey there! I believe what I said was that I would use much less steel. The camper is built upon a steel frame. If I were to build it again, I would would integrate some steel into the corners for jack attachment points, and nothing else. I would not expect wood to hold bolt (to wood) or...

Got it tossed back together today. Super happy to have this project done and out of the way. Its one Ive been meaning to do. And Im happy enough with the looks. It will certainly be a conversation starter... as if the custom camper setup isnt enough already  The fuel door I...

    Camper paint questions

Regardless of coating/paint, unless the epoxy you used specifically states it is a non-blushing epoxy, you will have to prep the surface via sanding and washing (soap and water). There is simply no way about it. Epoxies that are NOT non-blushing pushes an amine blush to the surface as it cures...

    Custom Cabin Filter

Far as I know, previous generations had much of the wiper cowl open to the tray below it. And I am aware of the airbox mod for previous generations, that involves cutting into the hvac/air box unit from under the dash, behind the glove box. But as far as I can tell, its not applicable to...
