    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

While on our trip we never needed any shore power. I'm very impressed and happy with the performance of these drop in Lithium batteries. I finally read up on the Magnum battery monitor and it tells me everything from state of charge to amps coming in and being used. The lowest SOC observed was...

Compost toilet; takes some adjustment but overall it is definitely "more pleasant?" and easier to empty than the curve cassette. I did learn that its important to put the right amount of median in the bucket or it will smell smell smell. Also cedar does a better job than pine. One important...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Recently returned from a trip to Missouri and learned a few things. First though, third time was the charm for the drain. The two pvc 90's lined up and fit together for a smooth flow. Also an easy way to line up the truck and camper for loading; while camper is on the stand, back truck as...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Pulled the trigger on the C-Head http://c-head.com/. Wife thought I should build my own and use the money for other things than a toilet. Probably could have but glad I didn't. I must say how impressed I was with the quality, fit and finish of this product. The website does not do it...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

I've been rethinking the compost toilet option after reading a recent thread about a family of four and how they only dumped twice in 6 weeks. I steered away from this option due to size, however after learning about the C-Head, I may be reconsidering. Anybody have experience with this model or...

Other updates include moving the soap dispenser over the sink to allow more shower space. Also added a teak floor mat for traction. Needed convenient wall storage, so netting was easily installed.

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Update; hopefully third time is the charm for gray tank drain line. After using the shower on our last trip, I still was not satisfied with the drainage. The key of course is no restriction or sag in the line. As I said "hopefully" this will do the trick.

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Got around to the scales this morning. Not as light as I had hoped, but a reduction of 1,040 lbs over our last camper. Camper dry weighs 2400 lbs. Truck without camper weighs 8,120lbs, with camper 10,520lbs.

First real shake down: Just took a 7 day trip to Saint Louis and Elsah Illinois. Put close to 2k miles in. While no off-roading, it sure seemed like it with the poor road conditions surrounding St Louis. Through all the bumps and jolts the camper did not budge. It's amazing what a few lag...

I think it depends on the build method, some extrusions definitely are structural. Enjoy your build!

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

The drain in #12 is for the shower and the sinks. It is a 1 inch tube that exits between the camper and cab. A flex line then connects it to the gray tank under the flat bed. For my build the aluminum is a must for construction. The video's you referenced are very interesting but I don't know...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Thank you. If you go back to post #12, you can see the plumbing between the two sheets of plywood. You could easily do the same with wiring if you have everything planned in advance. For the roof vent I drilled a hole through the foam of the panel, then took it down the side behind cabinetry...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Thanks, I appreciate that. There is a lot of good information and ideas within this forum which inspired me to do this build. I've never done anything like this before and feel that most DIY'ers can probably do the same and better. Looking back, there are definitely a few things I would do...

BeefCake's build...a roll your own Earthroamerish family expo rig

Sounds like a similar thing that happened to me. Our 2012 Tiger which had the Ram 3500 chassis nearly didn't make it out of the white rim trail. Went in with a full tank of fuel and everything running fine. At the end the engine was gasping no power and almost out of fuel. Once out we went...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Finally got around to the rewiring of the AC. Went with 1 gauge and ANL fuse block. This fuse seems to make a more solid connection than the blade type. Larger wire required two aluminum conduits instead of one. For interior, Lowes has a good selection for wire hiders...

Kalori compressor update. Although the unit has been doing fine for now, I received a phone call from Steven at http://dcpowersales.com/. After further investigation, he informed me that it was not the compressor but a heat sensor. I was impressed by his follow up and glad that I won't have to...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Heard back from Kalori regarding compressor. They do recommend a thicker gauge wire,- 2 gauge. I'll probably go with 1/0, just not in a big hurry to get this done. So far I've been impressed with Kalori. Connected the new grey tank drain line. It slips right over and flows much better.
