    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Thanks. Shell construction took about 4 months working on it in spare time. Also have to take into consideration the learning curve. Now that I have the experience, I would guess a couple of weeks working full time. Actual panel construction is not that hard or time consuming. You can...

Options for round the country trip.

Point is to show possible 4x4 conversion options of Ford e series. Personally, I would find a cab and chassis and build the box with composite panels.

Options for round the country trip.

If you search You Tube for Ujoint, you can get a good idea of the options and possibilities with 4x4 conversion. I think your looking at a minimum of 20K.

Installed a hook above the door for easy attachment. While this tarp requires more set up time, I definitely like the different variations for shelter. Will probably purchase a third pole.

What a difference 65lbs makes. After more driving and playing with the airbag psi, the truck is dialed in nicely. My last camper that weighed over 3,000lbs, needed the airbags maxed at 100 psi. This camper with the awning at just over 2000 lbs drove nicely at 60 psi but with some wobble over...

Another idea is a Chinook 4x4. Find one cheap and tweak to your liking. https://www.smartrvguide.com/rvs-for-sale/chinook-4x4 You may also convert any ford van based RV to 4x4 through http://ujointoffroad.com/

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Does anybody have an idea or thoughts about awnings? I decided to take down my 10 footer self support dometic to see if ride quality could be improved. It's 65 pounds and definitely makes a difference without it. I've looked at ARB, Smittybilt, and Fiama. I'm thinking I'll mount it half way...

One couples experience with Overland Explorer

Wow, this sounds nothing short of criminal. Even if you were involved and made unexpected changes, the increases in price should have been disclosed. While this forum is an excellent resource it can also have its traps by vendors/sales people who troll here looking for business. I almost had a...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Thought this might be of interest to those who haven't yet seen the post. This is the thread/post that inspired me to build my own camper from foam board. https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/hand-built-hard-side-pop-up-camper.59177/...

Guess your duals helped a lot? Or maybe its just the cummins difference :) Jeff Interesting how this build thread is becoming a personal / business promo for panels. I personally had no issues with the Dow 60 foam board.

Chris, So far my build has held up very well. This type of panel construction is not new to overlanding. I think the key to the twisting and torqueing is a solid foundation and possibly a 3 point attachment. There is a ton of discussion on that in the forum. For my build, the floor is made...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

My idea for a new panel has different variations. * Cost and weight. If you go with 2" foam board, you will need 4" aluminum angle which increases cost and weight. For 1" foam board, 3" aluminum angle which will decrease cost and weight. This will be a personal preference regarding wall...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Did a little winter camping last night. Temps dropped to 37. The propex heater did a great job on a minimal setting. No sleeping bag needed just a lite blanket. Easily maintained temp of 60. Also used 3% of battery. Anxious to try it out when it gets really cold and windy.

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

I went the easy route with battery powered puck lights. They work well but just don't last that long before needing new batteries. So, I installed a flexible LED my wife found at Lidl for $15. Its a little over 14 ft. and comes with a 12 volt adapter which I cut off and wired directly in. The...
