    Help requested, Patagonia, Argentina

We broke a spring in Patagonia. A parabolic on a Mercedes 917 (9 tonne 4X4 truck). We have airbags that could handle the load. I think we limped into Rio Gallegos. The Mercedes truck dealership sent us to a truck spring shop across the street. The spring shop said they did not have springs for...

GPS on a laptop - please help

Open street maps is very up to date and shows everything including hiking trails. I have used it from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. It works off line. It is a fantastic resource. By the way I ran it in parallel with an In Reach and Delorm's mapping. Open Street map was by far the most accurate and...

    Burying gray water?

So never dump at a camp spot, boondocking site etc. Make use of rv dump sites, there are lots in US and Canada. Dump on remote dirt roads while driving. An electric dump valve is the easy way. Bio friendly soaps etc.

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

We had a similar system on our truck. The external supply is extremely vulnerable to damage. After ripping it of twice that was the end of the system.

    Snow chains for offroad use.

Design dream truck | Mercedes Atego 4x4

The first Pic reminds me how our truck started! That dream design needs a cab/cabin access.

    MB truck electric questions

Something I have been caught out on is assuming a mechanic sees that it is a 24 Volt vehicle. I would add some large lettering by the fuses. 24 VOLT VEHICLE

Where to mount Solar Controller (Tacoma)

One note on voltage drop, Quality charge controllers will have a separate voltage sensor at the battery, the charge controller then uses that to adjust charging voltage. Bottom line though the charging wire cannot be too short or too big.

    Pb vs. LiFePO voltage sag

Pulling 100 Amps out of a 200 Amp/Hr Lead deep cycle battery bank is pretty brutal. You must be exceeding the battery manufacturers discharge rate.

    *SOLD* - Unimog U500 with GXV-Global X Vehicles Pangea

We travelled with one of the sister trucks to that one. The only issue they had with cold weather was having to remove ice from the lower ledge before lowering.

    Kill switches

I installed kill switches on both my Frontrunners that cut the fuel pump. A thief can try to start the vehicle and it will turn over but not start. If a thief turns the key and nothing happens the first thing they will do is look for a kill switch. On the Mercedes truck we has a hidden valve...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Engaging the bolt compresses the springs and de-activates the spring brakes which are your emergency and parking brakes. This is called caging the brakes. The cylinders on the front axle will be smaller as they do not have the spring. The rear brakes with the spring need to be adjusted so that...
