I think a lot of it must be the speed people are going. I know with my OBS, if I stay at 62 or below, I can do at least 13, but usually 15-16 mpg. But the moment I go over 65 and get the RPMs above 2K, that fuel mileage drops to the 11 range. Something simliar went for my old work truck, a...

    2021 F150 vs F250

Mileage is a factor, although not the most important factor. I would be looking at a decent amount of miles as well. Also looking to go the Alaskan route. I'm over tent type material. Especially since an Alaskan allows for winter activities much better than a soft side option. But of course...

Ok that makes more sense. Looks sweet by the way. I wonder if the OP has been considering mileage as a factor....

    2021 F150 vs F250

I also just realized how weird it is that the legal GVW is 9,200 pounds while the axle rating is 10,684 pounds not including the miniscule reserve rating. quite interesting. Must be a legal issue, or rating based on braking abilities. If anyone knows I'm all ears...that is a 1,400 pound...

    2021 F150 vs F250

Does anyone happen to have door stickers of a XLT or lariat for 150 and 250 (extended cab long bed 4x4)? Heck lets throw in a 350 also (although I doubt there is a huge difference between 250 and 350) I'm curious about the curb weight of a optioned out (hey call me old) xlt or lariat so I can...

Hey not all of us have newer rigs that can hold that 80mph limit. 60 is a solid hold here. ha! That's decent mileage. Although I must say my truck gets the same (well actually better if I were to have the correct spedo gear installed). I would have though your mileage would be better...

full size frame twist and implications to campers

what do folks think about spring loaded tie downs, and finding a way to mount the tie down to the inside of the bed so that the width doesnt' extend much past the 4' of inside wheel wells - theory being that there is less angular movement resulting in less twisting force of the frame being...

    GMRS antenna on smaller vehicles

Not a bad idea. I dont have a roof rack however... And I would question how benificial it is to be so high considering the roof is just fiberglass.... Although, it does look like the rest of your body acts as a ground pane a little better with the body below the antenna rather than just...

    2021 F150 vs F250

I'm not familiar with that area? So theres a decent old '75'ish alaskan (non cabover though :-( ) in spokane area for 2500 I think. Quite expensive for the age, but everything is stupid expensive right now anyway. And a modern alaskan is probably 8 months build time. Anywhoo... I figure...

    GMRS antenna on smaller vehicles

I greatly despise mag mounts. I also dislike lip mounts because then you have a wire hanging loose that still has to go through the body somewhere. Permenant mounts IMO are much better. The biggest issues are 1) finding the right place to mount it, 2) finding an actual mount that works (for...

    2021 F150 vs F250

Nice site. Yeah I figure those sort of places are still accessible with an alaskan. At least in my area there are plenty like that which are not terribly difficult to access.

    2021 F150 vs F250

Ha true. Although the few times I have to park in downtown Missoula its a little frustrating. But its more the grown in roads that are cumbersome with a big truck. The 150 is slightly smaller than my current, or another full size. But I think it has a tighter turning radius too, not...

What? Only one spring? that sounds like a problem waiting to happen. The Tremor isn't offered in a 8' bed unfortunately.

    2021 F150 vs F250

Yeah I go back and forth with that old relyability debate myself too. But there are lots of IFS vehicles out there with tons of miles. And my OBS is 25 years old 40K miles with a factory turbo - no issues. But I do get what your saying. I think a 250 would be over my price range though.

    2021 F150 vs F250

Funny thing is a '21 250 has max tow capacity at 15K. of course with the right eqiupment and little options. The 150 states 12K I believe. My OBS is 14K. The 150 probably has the least twisty frame. followed by the 250. Then way in the outfield is the OBS with the C channel frame that is...

    2021 F150 vs F250

Good points and very true. I suppose, to clarify, maybe compare this with my OBS F350. I'm pretty sure that the brakes at least of the 150 are better than the OBS. I'm not sure though if the axles, trans, transfer are the same between the 150 and 250 though. The frame I would think would be...

    2021 F150 vs F250

Looking at some specs today.... F150 extended cab 4x4 8' bed w/3.5 eco - 2,740 lbs max payload F250 same size w/7.3 - 3,460 max payload For comparison Ram 2500 - 3,040 max payload. Aside from being a tad physically larger, and the 720 pound payload difference, any major differences between...

    Paint or other coating options

Yeah I've thought about this a lot in the past too. Just can't justify 10K starting. most likely it would be more like at least 15K - pretty insane IMO. but your right, this is a permanent change that can't really be removed. Appeals to specific people.

    Paint or other coating options

Agreed and 10K was "starting" theres not many options for painters here...so maybe thats why they charge such high prices becasue theres not much competition. either way, i'm not spending 10K for paint on a truck that will be in the woods a lot.
