The bigger the truck, the greater the (misplaced?) concern about payload?

I'm not trying to encourage anyone to go undersized..... but............... I've got 80k miles on mine, since it has had the camper on it.. Tacoma, weighting 7000 lbs now. Heavy flatbed four wheel camper. I have custom appropriate leaf springs. I have appropriately sized coilovers in the...

The bigger the truck, the greater the (misplaced?) concern about payload?

Maybe that comes down to the difference of a true surprise, or a situation you see developing for a second.. I've never had a problem controlling my instincts on the road.. I'm not saying it won't ever happen.. But if you have good situational awareness, you can usually see the animal out of...

The bigger the truck, the greater the (misplaced?) concern about payload?

I think my overweight taco would flip on the 'mouse' test..... -edit, actually after reading some of the heated discussion in this thread maybe I shouldn't joke... I have successfully performed emergency swerve maneuvers.. around a vehicle, though, not a moose.

    RedArc Manager 30 help

I really like the redarc, but am afraid of it failing.. It's an all eggs in one basket situation. Where as people w/ a separate DC/DC for alternator, separate solar, and separate shore charging devices can still find another option if one of the three things dies.

    RedArc Manager 30 help

That specific temperature issue they had was just a few degrees off.. Was preventing lipo's from charging when it was still just above freezing. -40 is likely the lowest it will display.. So, something is broken. Or possibly disconnected.. Be sure the temperature sensor negative terminal thing...

    BFGoodrich KO3 coming soon!

Tacoma (but a super heavy flatbed tacoma with a permanently mounted pop-up camper). 235/85r16.. Which is a tall tire, with a lot of sidewall. And, I can't balance them.. I've had 4 different shops take a shot at it. Some ended up better than others, but even after two road force balances...

    BFGoodrich KO3 coming soon!

I'm not happy w/ my Wildpeaks.. Had ko2's before. But were out of stock for my size this summer when I needed tires... (still are apparently). In comparison to the ko2's.. The wildpeaks are super bouncy! Every bump I go over, is like I'm driving a basketball or something.. It's a little...

    is 4x4wire gone?

Send the archive to the internet archive. Let them host it. Problem solved. The thing people seem to want is the past data. Useful posts. Save that. Let the forum die. No cost involved. Same thing happening all the time lately. Yahoo Groups shutting down was horrible. Tons of pages of...

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

I mentioned I had high hopes of better brakes after pushing some bubbles out of the system... I got my truck back together yesterday, and.... They are the same... if not worse! I haven't been able to bed them yet, so they'll likely end up the same as before once that's done.. (Minus the...

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

I'd love a lighter pop-up camper, w/ most of the same 'features'. I have seen a very expensive carbon fiber, non pop-up truck camper. (I think it's the one Jay Leno had on his show, on youtube). I've put a lot of thought into saving weight, and the best I can come up w/ is replacing the...

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

I really like having the smaller truck. Just about every place we go, we end up on narrow disused roads or jeep trails. I scrape the sides of my truck every time out.. I can't imagine a wider vehicle. My goal in going out is to never see another person, once I get out there.. I wish there...

Help with Switches, ARB Rocker back to OEM style Pushbutton

Yes, directly in the dash. Molded into the plastic. This isn't my truck, but I found a pic online: For anyone unfamiliar w/ the differences between the pushbutton and the rockers.. The rockers internal casing can be the same size as the hole, all the way to the end. While the pushbuttons...

Help with Switches, ARB Rocker back to OEM style Pushbutton

2nd gen Tacoma. Yes, CH4x4. Both sets of switches in the dash, to the left of the steering wheel, have been 'modified' to the bigger rocker switches. I don't really want to cut away the entire dash in that area and install a new plate.. But, that might be my only option. CH4x4 does have 3...

Help with Switches, ARB Rocker back to OEM style Pushbutton

I'm trying to replace an ARB rocker switch the previous owner of my truck installed, with a dual pushbutton style. So, today I pulled the rocker, wired up the pushbutton, push it in the dash, and it just falls back into it. Apparently to install the ARB rockers, you've got to trim away all the...

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

Thanks for all the replies.. And yes, I am very aware of the situation I am in, and agree w/ all of it. I have done everything I can to cut weight from this rig.. It's likely almost 1000 lbs lighter than it used to be when it had the lead batteries, heavy solar, extra stuff in the camper...

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

I don't know the exact number, but yes, about twice recommended. 2012 taco. I was surprised by how heavy it is, when I finally weighed it (years after it was built). And this is after replacing two heavy lead batteries w/ one light lithium, replacing the heavy glass solar panels w/ light...

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

I'm not sure how slipping down a few inches off a small ledge could kill anyone, but agreed.. It's always a good day when no one dies.

What will an overweight Taco and a slip off a rock get you?

maybe 'something' to do with it. The OEM spider gears stripped.. not the ring and pinyon (finals). But yeah.. I mean.. Different gear ratio, giving more torque.. with the truck weighing almost twice a stock truck. With much heavier wheels and tires. I'm sure it all had something to do with...
