And if I'm not mistaken, it was these changes to the suspension in 2014 that caused the drop in payload rating from the normal 3/4 ton range to the dismal ~1500# rating they have now.
Anyone have Poison Spyder stuff? I know they mostly cater to the rock crawling crowd, but I've been looking for a bumper to replace my stock JK bumpers. I like the ARB and AEV ones, but they are so damn expensive.
The Poison Spyder JK Brawler full width looks promising. Good looking, and...
what about a Chevy?
I've never been a GM fan....nothing against the make, just never found their trucks particularly attractive and I always preferred the styling of Ford and Dodge.
But the dealer right here in town has a 2017 2500HD for a pretty good price. It's the WT trim, but it looks like...
Just to update my situation, FWIW......I still haven't made a purchase. Some personnel changes at work left me extremely busy and being on call pretty much 24/7 since early December. So between that and the holidays and moving, I've done a lot of spec'ing stuff out online and searching...
Those goodies on the PW are all awesome. But with the newer PW's (2014 and up, I think), the suspension is completely different and the payload is only 1500 pounds or less. Yours is probably close to 3000 pounds payload.
This is exactly what I'm looking for right now. In my area it's very hard to find a SRW 3500 with the Aisin. I also want a Tradesman trim level without all the fanciness. I have several dealerships looking for me and they've all told me that I'll have to order because there are just none in the...
I did some reading today and confirmed that payload is calculated by subtracting the GVWR from the curb weight, and that the curb weight includes a full tank of fuel and all the fluids needed for the vehicle to operate. For some reason I thought fuel had to be subtracted from the payload.
So, I...
I know you can keep the 2500 coil spring suspension and solve the payload problem just by getting a gas instead of diesel engine. I've never owned a diesel though, and I've always wanted one, so it's time to scratch that itch, I think. Maybe I'll and up getting rid of it for a gas engine in a...
Thats what Im leaning towards. I like the ride of the coil spring 2500, but it seems safer to me to modify a truck with plenty of capacity to be more comfortable when unloaded (if that is even needed), then it does to mod a more comfortable unloaded truck to better handle the loaded weight.
I know. I originally wanted a Power Wagon because.....well, it's obvious why I wanted one. However, the 1500# payload is just a non-starter all day long.
I could be wrong, but I thought the payload was GVWR minus the DRY vehicle weight. Maybe someone could confirm that? If it includes fuel and...
So I'm in the market for a new truck, largely to put a FWC (or similar) pop-up on for trips out west. I'm looking at diesel Rams, but the 2500 shortbed Ram with the Cummins only has about a 2400# payload capacity.
A FWC Hawk is 895# base weight; that can easily go up to 1200# just by adding...
Thanks. It's not a bad problem to have, I must admit.
My drive to work is on the short side, but I still average about 20-25k miles per year. Lots of running around doing errands and stuff on the weekends and after work, as well as at least one or two longish (~1000 mile) road trips each year...
Exactly what I was thinking. It'd be really hard for me to get more than a couple days off right now, but even a few day winter road trip from Boise down through Utah and across CO would be pretty fun.
I'm definitely going to look into it. Thanks for the tip on that dealership.
I was thinking the same thing. I might give them a call.....
Edit: I am a long way from Idaho (NC), but if I really could get one for $5k less that what I'd pay around here, it might be worth a quick flight out and a few day road trip back home.
